Dragon 371 Table of Contents

While I am looking forward to the Dhampyr article, I would absolutely love Playing Myconids. Make it so, WotC!

Honestly, my favorite thing about the article is that they're covering a race which doesn't already have a race writeup in the Monster Manual.

Well, Miconids are such FUN GUYS....

Someone had to say it.

I guess I have to hand in my he-man emo-kicking boots, 'cause I like the idea of Dhampyrs as a race -- frankly, I like anything that isn't an elfdwarfling, at this point.

I figured I'd get these responses, so now I ask: why?

Is there something appealing about their culture? Do they lend themselves to interesting backgrounds? Do they seem like a good fit for player classes (myconid paladins, myconid wizards, myconid warlords)? Is it just something cute about playing a fungoid?

There is a great myconoid creation on these forums somewhere. Cool abilities, decent fluff. There is also one that I've skimmed that is a playble race (one that has come out from the depths and has different plant abilities). I'd recommend finding either.

I've always liked myconoids. I'm not sure the PCs in my group do after the session before last....

then you should check out Alluria's products. They are releasing non-tradtional PC races. They are pretty well done (at least the two I've bought).

I did, actually. I have 3. I do, however, have some serious questions over their balance.

I've been meaning to write some reviews of all the 3rd party stuff I picked up.

I share that concern, but I've never worried about balance, frankly. None are so broken that they'd change the game, I don't think.

I'll likely use them more as monsters anyway.

Myconids aren't "niche" enough for me.

If WotC doesn't scrap the Dhampyr article and release a playable race of vampiric fungi that look like elves but can TELEPORT, well, psh. They just lost MY business.

I do remember seeing that playable myconid 4E race a long time ago...they had some kind of spore-shooting encounter power, or what-not. Seemed pretty balanced.

That's kind of disappointing...

I was thinking dhampyr would make a great multiclass-only class.

Now THAT, I could get behind.

It's not my favorite archetype, either. But it *is* a popular one. I'd just as soon have players be able to scratch that itch then let it fester.

And I'd rather get an official version than some crappy 3rd party one that player X JUST HAS TO PLAY. :)

Might even be reskinnable to something else. So far, I've had a lot of success reskinning player races to suit my campaign needs.
