Dragon Age 4 - now The Veilguard

Doesnt he turn against if you try to be sympathetic to the mages leader during the last fight?

I always side with the Mages, because its the obvious One True Way.

You can get Fenris to side with you against the templars if you keep his friendship maxed and finish his quests. I have been able to keep everyone on my side when siding with the mages, even when I spare Anders, save for Sebastian who will always leave if you spare Anders if I recall.

According to his wiki page:

In the final battle, Fenris always joins Hawke who sided with the templars. He also immediately joins Hawke who sided with the mages if they have 100% friendship or rivalry with Fenris and have completed his last personal quest, Questioning Beliefs.

Otherwise, Hawke who sided with the mages meets Fenris in the Gallows courtyard:
  • If Hawke has any (0-100%) amount of friendship or less than 50% rivalry (1-49%) or exactly 100% rivalry with Fenris, he can still be convinced to join the party at this point.

  • If Hawke chooses any reply other than "Join me" or has more than or equal to 50% and less than 100% rivalry with him (50-99%), Fenris rejects Hawke. Later, he shows up with a group of city guards inside the Gallows and Hawke has to kill him.

Clearly I didn't have enough Approval/Rivalry with him. I'm pretty sure I did complete his final personal quest, though. It's been a while since I played, so I honestly can't remember.

Oh and talking of love/hate, I understand the romance system is back to the companions being playersexual, as per DA2, rather than having specific gender (or even species!) preferences, as per ME or DAO/DAI. In both cases it's a win/lose so it's a case of pick your poison, but I definitely personally prefer playersexual because I feel like several more restrictive Bioware romances were kind of dumb. Jack will always stick out particularly, especially as she was planned to be bi and EA nixed it during ME2's development.

Mine was Cullen. He got so adorably flustered when my Inquisitor hit on him, I started a female mage run just to romance him, and run into the fact that the game is just so long, lol.
