Dragon Disciples questions

I want to start an epic campaign with all players going for the dragon disciple PrClass. Since I don't have much experience with that class, could someone point to me some munchkin dangers I should try to spoil as DM? :D

Or what have been the problems with the class, ruleswise?

There has been some fairly heated debate on the boards as to whether or not a character gains all the associated bonuses when he gets the "large" part of the PrC. The general (but far from unanimous) consensus, and semi-official rulings are that the character gets no additional ability bonuses for being large - they are already included in the classes abilities.

Also, keep in mind that a sorcerer who takes dragon disciple levels never gains caster levels with the DD levels - only a couple of bonus spells. (IMC, I have ruled an effective caster level increase with each bonus spell (ie, for overcoming SR, durations etc...).

Generally speaking, the DD is for fighter-types who to a bit of magical dabbling - not for tough sorcerers.

Another much seen variant of the Dragon Disciple is to make it more sorcerer beneficial. This is achieved by removing the bonus spells and changing it into an increase of spellcasting on every uneven level. The size increasement is also removed, though the character will still be able to fly (which also makes it more fun for small sized characters to take this prestige class). So compared to simply taking the template as a sorcerer, the character will have slightly more hit points, better saves and he can fly, at the cost of 5 casting levels. Considering the +5 ECL from the Dragon magazin for the half-dragon template is a bit on the high site, this should be balanced.

Hmm. Looks like I got a lot of work to do to revamp that stuff then. I want my players to slowly become kinda halfdragons, then fullscore dragons.

Different dragons of different colours and abilities... Thanks for the info about the spell levels.
