Dragon Magazine caption contests

I have a pretty good memory. Especially for things I've seen or read. But I swear, when they publish the cartoon caption contest winners in each edition of Dragon Magazine, I never remember having seen that cartoon.

I look at the caption contest cartoons every issue. But the cartoon run with the winning captions never looks familiar. And they never run a caption contest winner of the cartoons I remember having seen.

Does anyone else have this problem? Are they running another contest in Dungeon Magazine (which I never buy nor read), and running the winners from Dragon Magazine in Dungeon, and the winners from Dungeon in Dragon?

This is really starting to bother me.

I think the captions originally appear in black and white, and when they appear with the winning result they are coloured (and perhaps "finished" more - could that be the reason for your impression?

The initial caption is in black and white, and appears about 3 issues prior to the printing of the winning result.

Same. Though I really should just go back and check previous issues.
