An invisible spellcaster pulls out a scroll and begins to cast a spell from the scroll. An angry mature adult Red Dragon who is only 10’ away is using his blind-sight(DMG p.73) ability to “See” the character. Regarding what the dragon can see, which of the following statements are true?
1) The dragon can “See” the character casting a spell from a scroll and thus gets an attack of opportunity on the spellcaster.
2) The dragon knows exactly where the character is, but does not “See” the character casting from a scroll and does not get an attack of opportunity.
3) It depends on the spell, if the spell has verbal and somatic components, the dragon can “See” the somatic movements and hear the spell being cast, thus the dragon gets an attack of opportunity.
Is there official clarification somewhere about what Blindsight can “See”?
My interpretation of Blindsight is that the dragon knows exactly where the invisible character is, does not have a miss-chance, and knows exactly what the invisible character is doing (such as casting a spell, shooting a bow, moving thru a threatened square, and etc.) Basically, the dragon really can “See” what’s happening as if the character was not invisible to begin with.
What does everyone here think?
Thanks!
