There are 5 potential options for egg-laying but not a reptile or mammal and you're still not happy? Truely, I cannot win.

The way the poll is set up, you're trying to get me to respond to the categories you laid out. But I don't agree with the categories; indeed, the poll seems to presuppose some answers to the underlying controversy. To me, a dragonborn is a dragon-like creature with a humanoid form. It is, in end, basically a dragon. And dragons are not reptiles, although they have reptilian characteristics.

I did however include "None of the above" as well as "A Fantasy race"

And how could I set up a poll without using categories or presupposed answers? *baffled*

Well, of course there's none of the above. and it's your poll and you can do whatever you like. I just think it's strange that there's no option for "Draconian, and humanoid."

IMO the lack of imagination comes from those who can't imagine that a fantasy (or even alien) race just might not be so easily pigeon-holed into conforming exactly with the biological rules of planet Earth.

Admin here.

Just because people don't agree with you doesn't mean they lack imagination. Next time please express yourself without insulting most of the people in this thread in the process. Thank you.

In humans, boobies aren't necessary for breast feeding. Lot's of animals have mammaries and nipples, but no boobies. They're present because human males find them sexually attractive. Maybe they're sexually attractive to dragonborn males as well. Since dragonborn don't exist in the real world, we can't ask them what they like. Isn't it a lack of imagination to be unable to believe that anthropomorphic dragon-men might be attracted to anthropomorphic dragon-women with boobies?

It's all a matter of taste. Since dragon-born aren't real, we can't look to the real world. If they have boobies, it's because dragonborn men really like them. If they have nipples, it would be odd (unless they breastfeed their young). But boobies are a different matter all together.

Which, just by sheer, inexplicable coincidence, happen to correspond exactly with the biological drives of teenage male humans and no other sex or species in four billion years. And, in a further unexpected and shocking twist, this product is meant to be exchanged for teenage male humans' money. Obviously this was driven by unbridled creativity, rather than making dragonborn act like creatures who can't buy books or even like no Earthly creature at all. ;)

Did you even read the damn thread before posting? I answered every single one of those points.

Case in point - many species DO have breasts without nipples. In pretty much every single case of this, it's the male that has the sexual dimorphism to attract the female.

Nobody's saying dragonborn have to be perfectly modeled after the real world. They're saying they have to follow basic biology. And no, saying "A wizard did it!" isn't an answer, it's an excuse. A bad one, at that.

Edit: Know what? I'll agree with dragonborn breasts so long as they're on the males and only the males. Deal? After all, this is a fantasy world, there should be no problems with that. We get your breast obsession AND the rules of basic biology and mate selection at the same time!

I voted "fantasy race".

Personally, I hope that the door is left open as to their reproduction. A lot can be deduced about a a culture based on its reproduction habits and taboos. I would like to have the dragonborn in one of my worlds be mostly mammals, being close to a human type society, whereas in a different world they are more reptilian, giving their culture an alien feel from the ground up.

It ain't that I can't imagine it, it's just such a bunch of conceptual loops for such vanishingly little gratification that it's not worth the time. If they were obvious chimeras it'd be fine, but it seems like if they were, it'd reduce their appeal a bit to people who just want to play a little walking dragon.

Serious Answer Finnally

So as a real role player I believe that the more "fleshed out" a race is the better character created from it are. I think that perhaps female dragonborn perhaps give birth much like the kangaroo. One small difference is that like some snakes it lays a leathery egg. When the "fetus" is hatched it looks like a snake...no arms or legs just buds. It will mature in the pouch of the mother (OR father or are they asexual) and emerges mature but small.

This could be seen to the uneducated races as giving birth to fully grown offspring as well.
