WotC has shared a video explaining the Dragonlance setting, and what to expect when it is released in December.

World at War: Introduces war as a genre of play to fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons.

Dragonlance: Introduces the Dragonlance setting with a focus on the War of the Lance and an overview of what players and DMs need to run adventures during this world spanning conflict.

Heroes of War: Provides character creation rules highlighting core elements of the Dragonlance setting, including the kender race and new backgrounds for the Knight of Solamnia and Mage of High Sorcery magic-users. Also introduces the Lunar Sorcery sorcerer subclass with new spells that bind your character to Krynn's three mystical moons and imbues you with lunar magic.

Villains: Pits heroes against the infamous death knight Lord Soth and his army of draconians.

Notes --
  • 224 page hardcover adventure
  • D&D's setting for war
  • Set in eastern Solamnia
  • War is represented by context -- it's not goblins attacking the village, but evil forces; refugees, rumours
  • You can play anything from D&D - clerics included, although many classic D&D elements have been forgotten
  • Introductory scenarios bring you up to speed on the world so no prior research needed

1) Yes. Something to the effect of 'Would you believe the kingpriest as a good man?', which I'm pretty sure was heavily inspired by Gandalf's speech about Gollum, only Gollum is a zealot dictator.
That seems awfully vague, citation needed ;)

Still looking for mine, meanwhile from the Kingpriest trilogy, this is the First Son, i.e. second in command speaking

“They do unspeakable things in your name, my god,” he whispered, so softly he did little more than mouth the words. “They spread woe in the name of righteousness, hatred in the name of virtue. They are blind to you, dazzled by the Kingpriest’s light. Please, in the name of all who have suffered falsely in your name … in the name of the darkness and the light … let it end. Let me set it aright, once and for all.”

Doesn't make the Kingpriest sound like the paragon of good, does it?
2) Assuming we're finally getting someone to cop to the good gods mercing the Kingpriest, I'm sure we can also cop to the fact that they merced thousands if not millions of innocent people and caused the suffering of countless more up to and including that part where their goth little sis used the aftermath as a means of building up a massive army of heavy metal album covers to try and rule the world.
Who is the 'we' here and why 'finally'? I feel like I have seen 20 posts on this topic, or so, all from today, maybe 4 people between them. Not sure either 'we' or 'finally' are justified.

Is there some longer running conversation I am unaware of ?

Now to your questions:

1) all the gods agreed on the Cataclysm, not sure how reluctant the good ones were or whether they were, but in the end they all did it, so yes, the good gods did merc the Kingpriest, together with the rest of them.

2) Killing thousands if not millions of innocents, not sure this can be said. They make it very clear that it was not about the Kingpriest only and the rest is not innocent. In fact just killing the Kingpriest would not have accomplished anything.

If you want my personal take on this, chances are it also hit some innocents, just like the flood did. I see both events as roughly equivalent. All powerful and good beings should have no problem finding a better solution. For both you have to suspend disbelief and go with the canon.
In the same vein suffering of survivors, yep, agreed.

3) Takhisis, yep she got her chance because of the Cataclysm, but her downfall was also seeded in advance, i.e. Paladine made sure the disks would be in Xak Tsaroth, so Goldmoon could find them in the future.

Almost like everything is preordained. If you go down the rabbit hole of canon long enough you are bound to find issues, esp. in a world like Krynn with over 200 published books ;)

Yes he did, in the original series.

"Fizban scolded, shaking a bony finger at her. "There was a time when good held sway. Do you know when that was? Right before the cataclysm!" "Yes" he continued seeing their astonishment " the king priest of Istar was a good man. Does that surprise you?"
Maybe you should continue with your quote

“Yes,” he continued, seeing their astonishment, “the Kingpriest of Istar was a good man. Does that surprise you? It shouldn’t, because both of you have seen what goodness like that can do. You’ve seen it in the elves, the ancient embodiment of good! It breeds intolerance, rigidity, a belief that because I am right, those who don’t believe as I do are wrong. “We gods saw the danger this complacency was bringing upon the world. We saw that much good was being destroyed, simply because it wasn’t understood."

So yes, he called him as good man, but a misguided good man whose actions cause a lot of evil. 'The road to hell is paved with good intentions' comes to mind

Fits perfectly with my earlier quote

That's right, because in DL Intolerance is a trait of Good.

It's funny how you demanded @Vaalingrade provide a citation to the quote you yourself was fully aware of, and in fact quoted.

Not sure it is necessarily a trait of Good, more something that all zealots share. There is a fine line between righteous and self-righteous, on Krynn and on Earth.

I looked it up based on what he provided, I was not aware of it. I am not one to play such games. In that case a simple 'yes, but ...' would have been enough.

Funny how you point out how I might have been dishonest in asking for the quote I supposedly was aware of, yet say nothing about the dishonest editing when it was provided...

Also, I did not find the quote I was looking for, I assume it does not in fact exist and is more the conclusion of several parts. This quote sums it up best, at least from what I found

"You understand, now,” said Fistandantilus. “It is nothing so simple as good against evil. Not any more.”
“You could end this,” Cathan said. “You could bring him low with a word. Why haven’t you?”
The dark hood whispered as the archmage shook his head. “What would that accomplish? It would make him the greatest martyr of all. Evil cannot strike the blow that must fall, Twice-Born. No, this time it must be good that fights against the light.”"

Or it might have been in the post you later quoted that was on the thread almost 10 minutes before you posted your demand?

The forum tells you with a little banner when you're writing a post and someone else has posted before you so...

I have literally no idea what you are talking about, with banners and timing of posts, but it does sound like you are calling me a liar. So F you too

EDIT: ok, so I missed a post, big deal. Not sure why you have to assume I am lying when there is exactly nothing I gain from it and could have just as well posted the same thing under the other post, had I seen it. Are you so incompetent when you are scheming that this looks like a good strategy to you?
Seems me missing that post makes a lot more sense than the alternative. But at least now I know what to expect from you.

"The Kingpriest was a good man. So good that it was actually bad, which is checks notes not good.
Consequently, the Kingpriest was both good and not good, which is a state that is not logically valid, and therefore not lawful.
Ergo, the Kingpriest was chaotic.
Thus, I hereby propose that the Kingpriest was secretly a slaad in disguise. In this essay I will..."

and NOT edited this in.

Because that’s you making personal attacks and escalating the tensions in the thread. Etc.

In the future, if you feel someone is attacking you, DON’T go off on them, report the post.

I can opt to go to a different game and play an orc there. The DM cannot keep me from playing an orc or force me to play something other than an orc. He can only say no orcs in his game, which doesn't force me to do anything.
Der. Max if you are somehow thinking you are making some logical argument you are not.
It is INFERRED that I mean at the DMs table. OBVIOUSLY, the DM can't control what you from play at any other table.
Really, I'm almost rempted to say you're trolling but honestly, I think a bunch of others are trolling too so whatever.

I just want to say great post @Veltharis ap Rylix and I'll reply when I have a little more time to organise my thoughts cohesively. Not that I have seen every post within these threads regarding DL, but so far yours stands out for me, as unique in that it captures your preferences in a logical manner and provides the reasons why as opposed to the I just want to play orc mantra we have been debating endlessly in the last couple of pages.
