Dragonlance Lost Chronicles Canceled ?!?!

If you expect anything in the quality of martin (or Tolkien) than don´t bother with the DL novels. you are gonna be disappointed. i think DL are great for YA but i don´t think they can hold a candle to books in the vein of martins.

I read the first trilogy and two out of three of the second trilogy.

They weren't bad, but I'd rate them at "average" or slightly below. I certainly didn't hate them. They didn't make me want to throw up in my mouth the way Ed Greenwood's Realms fiction or any of the Avatar trilogy did, but I didn't enjoy them anywhere near as much as Martin, Robin Hobb, Steven Brust, or China Mieville.

They're better than Terry Brooks, I can say at least that much. If you liked the Shannara (sp?) books, then I think you'll like the Dragonlance books quite a bit more.

As for the cancellation, it's a shame to see the last book go unpublished. I'd be bummed if I was a fan of the series waiting for everything to get wrapped up, only to be left out in the cold.

It's really hard to say much without knowing what went on behind the scenes as far as sales #'s, possible delays in the manuscript and any contract negotiations.

don´t get me wrong: i´ve read the first 2 triologies when i was around 16 or 17 and i loved them. we played many DL campaigns and the world still holds a place in my heart. but i think when you are above a certain age and your only exposure to fantasy are Martin and Tolkien, then i don´t think that you will get much out of them.

kind of a comparision between the LOTR films by jackson and, say, red sonja

I haven't read the first two books, but this isn't a "trilogy" in the normal sense. Since it's just an "in between" series there is no need for a completion, so to speak. It's already completed.

It's more like reading the first Chronicles book, then reading the first Lost Chronicles, read the 2nd book then read the 2nd LC. For Raistlin's book you would get into the 2nd half and hope back and forth for a complete read ;)

Wierd. First they cancel the final book in one of Elaine Cunningham's FR series

Just to clarify one point. Elaine Cunningham has said on her blog and on the candlekeep forums that WOTC did not unilaterally cancel her book. She had changed plots and characters etc but was unable to finish writing the book. So after consulting with WOTC it was decided to cancel the book. Here is a direct quote:

Just to reiterate, PDK, WotC would have published this novel if I'd given them a novel to publish. This is a clear-cut case of the publisher NOT being at fault.
