Dragonmarked

I really like this book. It makes me actually want to play a dragon marked character, something I was not interested in doing before.

More importantly, it makes me want to play a Dragonmarked house other than Cannith. The lure of the Artificer is hard to resist, especially when you have been playing Castlevania: Curse of Darkness.

The novels don't help. In Bakers books the Cannith chick basically seems to have a choice between doing exactly what she's told and being kicked out.

I always had the impression that *most* marked members of a House actually have a fair bit of freedom. Lei's situation in Keith's novels is a bit, uh, unique but I believe even she mentions that there a very few things you can do to actually get kicked out of the House.

One of the big ones is intermingling of bloodlines of marked members of different houses. If I were DM'ing an Eberron game I'd basically let the dragonmarked PC get away with a slap on the wrist for most offenses that weren't outright betrayal of the House.

Anyway, any nifty new info on House Deneith?

I've been wanting to play a Lyrandar character since Explorer's Handbook. Dragonmark's Storm Sentry PrClass just compounds on the neeeeeeeed.

Unfortunately there's little proof to support either position (much less something in between) - at least there's little evidence outside of the Dragonmarked product. (I didn't buy it because it didn't have enough information on the dragonmark war).

Sure, but mingling those bloodlines is a huge offense. The d'Marked Houses do not like Aberrant dragonmarks. Period.

i dont the understand what are the dragon marks? The new type of feats?

Dragonmarks are brought into the game via feats yes but they are so much more.

There are 12 true marks, each relating to a family/guild in Eberron.

Each mark has a specialty that it focuses on that lets that family dominate a particular area of economics.

Cannith is creation/invention
Lyrandar is Weather (which lends very well to Air and See Travel)
Sivis is scribing
Kundarak is Warding (and banking)
Denieth is Defense
Orion is Transportation
Jorrasco is Healing
Gallanda is Hospitality (food and housing)
Thurrani and Phirlarn is Stealth (this house split in two)
Medani specialize in tracking

There are 2 others encompassing Detection and Animal Husbandry and one other I just cant seem to remember.

These "houses" come together as the economic power houses that help Khorvair move.

As a Dragonmarked PC you're tied to the house, but tend to be a free agent. Your mark grants you a spell like ability tied to the nature of your house. You can take additional feats to improve it, or even PRC's.

Its really damned cool.

As mentioned above, they're a set of feats that grant certain spells or spell-like abilities, and there are various levels of them.

They're initially detailed in the Eberron main book, I believe, but mechanically they're straightforward enough that you can just borrow that book to get a feel for it and then incorporate them into a non-Eberron campaign. At least, that's what I'm thinking of doing, as I bought my copy of Dragonmarked because it was more than half off due to a printing error (it was bound upside down) but don't own any other Eberron books myself.

I guess you could say my copy is an Aberrant Dragonmarked.

My favourite part of dragonmarks is that only the races in the PHB have access to them. It breathes new life into the standard races, and makes them appealing despite the presence of changelings, shifters, and warforged.
