Im tired of threads that make Dragons out to be these uber munckin machines.
1) Dragons are arogant-you can only run into so many L3 commoners before you get a little jaded
2)spell selection-a dragon could go 50 years without facing a serious threat,it would take spells to aid it in day to day living, not fireball
3)the more encounters dragons have w/ humans the sloppyer they get-The humans a Dragon encounters make it less and less likely for it to take humans seriously

Now there would be exceptions to the above not all would be ruled by arogance, but most would

The one I'm really sick of is:

"Dragons are geniuses, they should be able to think of every tactic the party might possibly come up with."

Funny how those people don't seem inclined to give so much leeway to PC Wizards with even better Int scores...

Quite frankly, the amount of material out about dragons, combined with the general quality of said material (poor), has made me hate dragons enough to never run them in my games. I understand that other people like them, but when there are like 20 prestige classes with Dragon in the title, Dragon Magic, the (shudder) Draconomicon, Dragon Love Quest: Sexy Edition, etc etc, it just got all stupid.

I like both fire belching semi intelligent beast type dragons and scaled geniuses with fat spell-stacks and fly speed of harrier jet type dragons. Other than the wyvern, most dragons in the ruleset are scaled geniuses with fat spell-stacks and fly speed of harrier jet type and deserve to be played as such.

Trading the spells, ability to talk, 1/2 of the fly speed and about 6 points of Int for the feral template from savage species may make for a nice disposable dragon.

Actually when you do the math a dragon flying at base speed with 200 is doing ~20mph, hustling ~40mph, running unladen ~80mph.
A harrier should cruise at around 4000ft per round. ;)
