Dragonstar 4e

I know 4e hasn't even "officially" come out, but I was wondering if anyone has heard if Fantasy Flight will be adopting it's games to 4e? Dragonstar was one of my favorite 3e non-WOTC settings and I would love to see it make a comeback. As far as I understand it 4e will still be open license. Is that right? For those who have played Dragonstar how do they think it will change in 4e? How would they do daily powers? Wizard spells? If Fantasy Flight doesn't adapt it is there room to make a 4e Dragonstar?

I would dearly love Fantasy Flight if they converted DragonStar to 4E.

I absolutely love the setting, but I never got to run a game.

I think Dragonstar and Midnight had a lot in common. Excellent settings that certainly interested me, but when you then shoehorned them into the D&D 3rd ed system without thinking through your changes, the system broke in odd ways.

Midnight: Magic items are illegal. Enjoy your AC of 20 at level 20, unless you want to commit suicide by challenging the only god in the world to a stand-up fight.

Dragonstar: You have lasers that do ridiculous amounts of damage. Now EVERY fight can be a save-or-die affair!

I admit Dragonstar made all the problems in 3e much worse. They didn't really think it through very thoroughly. Wizards, for instance, become all but useless in a world with lasers and grenades that do as much damage as they do in Dragonstar.

That said the setting was incredible and they had so many cool things in it. Starcasters, spellware, and just the idea of a space based D&D world were just awesome. I hope that they redo it. My hope is that 4e wont have the problems 3e had with Dragonstar. Of course it might be even more incompatible. I just want them to try. I might buy if the attempt gets close.

I wouldn't mind a "toned down" version of Dragonstar.

Kind-of Spelljammer-tastic, but without crystal spheres or the phlogiston. Of course, toning the setting down to the level I'm imagining would be a complete reimagining from the ground up and probably shouldn't even bear the same name.

You might not need 3rd party for that if the rumors of them looking at spelljammer as a 4th ed setting are to be believed....though you might have to wait a while in that case....

Well, it wasn't a "safe-or-die" affair, but it was still pretty ridiculous. ;)
But I think with more experience with the d20 system (and even 4E is one), this problems can be fixed.

I would like a Dragonstar 4E version, but I am not seeing it happening anytime soon. I ran a Dragonstar-based homebrew for a while and enjoyed it.

Heh. Ironic that Midnight was one of the submissions for WotC Setting Search contest where Eberron is the winner.

I would love 4e DragonStar, but I doubt FFG is going to invest in it. Which is disappointing, because it's a fantastic setting that I think would fit 4e much better than it did 3e.
