Drider statue (Warning: Bare-breasted artwork!)

Why would I be kidding? I am sure this forum is visted by those younger than 18.

I think he's shocked (as am I) that anyone could possibly object to people of any age seeing a nude statue. I haven't lived in the states for a while, but art is still allowed, right?

Then agian, maybe you were objecting to hte fact that a young child shouldn't see a huge half bug person. That might be a valid worry!

(Removed link to lousy half color photo, you aren't missing much folks)

I don't feel too comfortable posting indoor shots. I considered it at first, but I know that if I were the artist, I wouldn't want people posting images of my work on the net without my permission.

That said, the fact that it's prominently displayed in a public space makes me feel ok taking pictures from said public space. Especially, as you point out, since some of the image is obscured by the glass (thus making it a greater challenge for people to make unauthorized derivative works).

At any rate, I'll ask about the artist when I'm on my lunch break today. If she gives permission, I'll happily post some better quality images. I'll also post her asking price. :)

In Canada, a woman can walk down the street bare-breasted if she chooses. Few choose to - but it's perfectly legal. At virtually every European beach (and many Canadian ones) - bare breasts are de rigeur.

I understand America is more conservative - but to object to plaster depictions of mammary glands on a sculpture is...*wow*.

Just... *wow*.

And before the 18th birthday, children don't realize albino spider-women have boobies. I know I didn't.

By the way, I can't tell -- is she wearing hip-hunging spider pants that reveal her oh-so-naughty thong undies? Because that would be OK.

If this wasnt allowed on the forum then the monster manual would need an age rateing. The nymphs wet cloth doesn't exactly hide much. There a asortment of fem things in the book that are 'covered' only by things like snakes or blue star things. And one or two with nothing at all.

I think a lot of people sometimes get a bit too sensitive about this kind of subject. Im not that concerned about the more private parts of the body, instead, more about the way there're potrayed and why.

Well, Japanese TV allows nudity, but not violence. It's the opposite of where I grew up (the states). My mom visited and was shocked that the kids swim nude in the river. Nobody else cared, big culture shock for the nice lady from Maine !

I disagree about the violence aspect; though there is room to say we're both correct. Some of the anime I saw on public television there had no problem with showing characters stabbed and bleeding from it; quite violent. However, the live action television admittedly wasn't as violent as comparative live action shows in America.

In terms of nudity...I find that is true, but mostly in situations where the nudity is quite clearly divorced from sexuality (whereas in America, the idea of nudity not being sexual is very rarely touted); this is usually in cases of being naked in the presence of a member of the same sex (e.g. public bathing). Kids may swim together in the river, but assuming kids of both sexes are there, I assume they were prepubescent, right?
