Someone has some beer pretty much every time I hang out with people, including gaming. But no one gets drunk while gaming. I'm frankly amazed that so many people have friends who are unable to have a few beers in the course of a few hours, but instead slam so many that they get hammered at the table. It's foriegn to me.

Get. The. Dungeonmaster. Drunk.

Bad idea, IME.

One of my original DMs was, at one point, a heavy drinker. And, the more he drank, the less rational his decision-making got. It got to the point that you absolutely could not predict what wacky ruling he'd make, and more than a few PCs suffered deaths as a result.

We finally convinced him to throttle back on the barley pop during games.

I like to game and I like to drink. But I wouldn't want to mix the two.

I guess I take gaming too seriously: if you drink and game, it's not going to be your A-game.

To the OP: you're drinking the wrong beer. My top pick is Paulaner Hefeweizen (Franziskaner also makes a good weissbier). If that's too Germanic, Pilsner Urquell is good on the lighter side and America's own Fat Tire Amber Ale is good on the darker side.

Social drinking? Sure.

Binge drinking? Nope.

Not every week, but occasionally, I'll have a glass of cognac or wine (I loathe beer -- even the fancy, expensive stuff tastes like used toilet paper). There are a couple of others who occasionally have a beer or some such. No drinking to excess, though.

Pretty much always. Most of us drink beer (Grolsch mostly), but one of us has recently made the switch to vodka/apple juice. He thinks it is less fattening.

Always in moderation over here too! One or two beers can help loosen everyone up, but the moment the alcohol starts flowing freely, our games are over. Everyone stops paying attention, staying on subject, or even attempting to take the game seriously.

I like neither beer nor pretzels. Pizza and Dr. Pepper is the way to go.

Although, this DM could probably be bribed with a good scotch, kentucky bourbon, or rye whiskey, I've never actually drank while gaming. One needs ones wits about them. Gaming IS relaxation. I don't need to be more relaxed.

In fact, I'd rather game than drank if I wanted to relax.

I'm a home brewer, and I always have four beers on tap at my house. So if we play at my house, the pitchers flow freely. Since it's my beer, my guests are usually gracious enough to have at least one. When we play elsewhere, six-packs are always part of the gaming accessories, although not everyone drinks, and we rarely get that drunk. That may be due to lots of practice.

I'm starting a new campaign at work, and the DM doesn't drink, which may be for the best.
