Drinks to try on my 21st?

Oh, and I usually keep a bottle of Meade around the house for celebrations: (ie I celebrate getting up in the morning, celebrate eating breakfast, celebrate while the news is on, celebrate lunch time, celebrate the sunshine, etc etc etc ;))

I like Stinger Tup - Caramel flavored hot chocolate (Swiss Miss) with Peppermint Schnapps added to taste.

Torm, god of Paladins, also likes Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain.

I'm by no means a big drinker... but, the empty stomach lesson is one that I learned when I was about 16.

I do not plan to go out and get totally sloshed - classes start the day after my birthday. :)

However, I do lack a lot of knowledge in the arena of actual drinks and want to make the most of my brithday without sounding like a complete fool when ordering. ;)

You're female and it's your birthday. Sounds like there's only kind of drink you'll be getting all night: FREE! ;)

But... you're a student! Then you gotta have Bluff as a class skill, right? :p

(I actually typed in the skill "Bludd" at first... what have I been drinking...? :\ )

Jaeger is the Devil...Trust me. There's few things nastier than shooting back a shot that's thick like molasses and tastes like a dog's rear end.

All in all, I'd stick to either beer, jack and coke, baileys on the rocks, or raspberry juice and Southern Comfort.

When it comes to beer here's some ideas:
Boulevard Wheat (it's a Kansas City brewery, but it's starting to get widely distributed)
Michelob (Heavy or Light, Ultra is like drinking water)
Dos XX (It's a lot better than Corona)
I'd stay away from Bud Light, especially if you don't want an upset stomach in the morning.

Be safe, and try not to overdo it.

Tip #2 (after the No Empty Stomach tip): Don't... I repeat: DON'T!!!!... mix distilled beverages (whisky, licquor, gin, rum) with fermented beverages (beer, wine, sake). It is a recipe to dizziness, projectile-vomit and a I-wish-I-was-dead headache on the next day. So don't.

As for what to try:

- Malibu (white coconut rum). Specially good served cold.
- Piña Colada (tropical style drink, coconut, cream and rum).
- Cuba Libre (you guys call it Rum-&-Coke)

Alas, you and your husband aren't in Brazil, or I'd say:

Caipirinha! (cachaça* + squished lemon + sugar + ice) The archetypical brazilian drink!

* -> cachaça is a distilled spirit made from sugarcane. It's the most typicial brazilian spirit.

Can't go wrong with the classic cocktails.

Perhaps a vodka martini (Grey Goose is nice)... tastes like the nail-polish remover they serve in Heaven, but is classy.

Perhaps a gin martini (Bombay Sapphire is nice)... tastes like a different brand of the nail-polish remover they serve in Heaven, and its even classier.

Perhaps a Manhattan... they're sweet, and red, and several orders of magnitude classier than other sweet, red, drinks.

Perhaps a sidecar (made with a good brandy)... also sweet. Super-old timey (don't be surprised if a Fitzgerald character tries to pick you up at the bar).

Anything with vodka in it. Why? Vodka A) doesn't give you bad hangovers and B) doesn't make your breath bad.

I usually drink straight vodka on the rocks with a hint of lemon (Absolut is a favorite, although Smirnoff and Finlandia make for good substitutes). However, vodka can mix with practically everything. So, here are a few variants:

Sex on the Beach (Vodka + peach schnapps + orange juice + blueberry juice)
Screwdriver (vodka+orange juice)
Vodka martini (shaken, not stirred ;)) - do not drink without a green olive
Vodka tonic
White Russian
Black Russian

If you don't want to follow the sacred vodka path, then I can recommend Tequilla Sunrise, Long Island Ice Tea, Cuba Libre, Malibu, or Manhattan - as others have already done.

No matter what you do, do not mix a lot of clear and colored alcohol.
