Buttercap stated my point better than I did.

Pretty much any sales outlet besides DTRPG would be fine with me, it does not have to be RPGNow.

Even if DTRPG discontinued using DRM I would still avoid them due to improprieties in their business practices.

I, too, avoid DTRPG like the plague. I do, on the other hand, frequently purchase from RPGNow. I probably wouldn't mind buying from other sites either, but I'm not really familiar with other sites, so it tends to be RPGNow that gets my dollar pretty exclusively.

What she said :)

I don't buy pdfs, personally- I vastly prefer print- so I just stopped in to see if the opinions had become more balanced since the last time I checked. Nope, everyone still hates DTRPG.

If I did decide to start buying pdfs, especially if there was some kind of "can't pass this up" product I couldn't get in print, I have to admit that the opinions of many of the people here would influence me greatly. I'd be unlikely to go to DTRPG first, and from what I know of the way they do business, I wouldn't be happy spending money with them at all. I don't like the idea of all the restrictions on their pdfs- I cut & paste a lot from one piece of homebrewed gaming material to another, and if I had the MM (f'rinstance) in digital format I'm sure I'd do the same with it as well. So an electronic copy of something that I can't dm-prep from would only frustrate and piss me off. I don't want to support that kind of stuff. I want any electronic stuff I ever eventually actually spend money on to be easy to use, so I can cut and paste what I want, pick & choose, etc.

Blah. Even though I'm not your target audience (as someone who doesn't buy pdfs), I could eventually become part of your target audience. I advise against DTRPG.

I'll echo the prevailing view of the thread.

Even the free PDF's were too clunky to bother with because of DRM (not to mention the whole mass of other problems with DRM protection if you actually wish to use the PDF for gaming).

I will buy PDF's from other sites if I like the concept (heck, I bought the entire Planescape collection from RPGNow).

Put me in the "much prefer RPGNow" category. I've downloaded some free stuff from DTRPG, and bought one module from them. I've bought countless items from RPGNow. The service was fine at DTRPG, but I only look there when I know there is an item I want very much and can not get elsewhere. I browse RPGNow and impulse buy frequently.

I guess I'm the sucker of this posting since I do use DTR...and I have several (both free and not free) of theirs. Also I have to comment on the fact I have been screwed MANY, MANY, MANY times by Paypal. I hate that and probably that alone is why I rarely, if EVER, download from RPGnow.com At least with WW's server, I'm sure I'm not getting violated.

Nightfall, do you have a credit card? I've found Paypal to be unusable but I didn't try to use it with RPGNow. I hate using my credit card but Pay Pal is worse, and RPGNow has never caused me any problems with my credit card.
