DriveThruRPG

Just bought Malhavoc's Grimoire II this am. . .

I had the choice of buying the regular .pdf version or the KLUGE-infested, OVER-ENGINEERED, WEASELY DRM version.

Guess which one I picked!

Heh.

Nightfall, do you have a credit card? I've found Paypal to be unusable but I didn't try to use it with RPGNow. I hate using my credit card but Pay Pal is worse, and RPGNow has never caused me any problems with my credit card.
Psi,

Unfortunately if you want something like a PDF it requires the use of a credit card...and yes I've used RPGNow a couple times. Each time I've had to change cards because SOME idiot gives away my number and uses it time and time again! :p This has ONLY happened when I bought stuff from RPGNow. (Well a few other sites too but it happened when after I changed cards AND used RPGNow. I don't believe in coincide do you?)

A pain I know all too well.

Do you know who this person is? Or do you think it's a security leak? You should take it up with the people there, but if it's a hacker...

It's never happened to me.

I personally won't use DTRPG because of their DRM. I had all kinds of trouble just getting a free file to download, I'm certainly not going to pay for it. I heartliy recommend http://www.rpgnow.com which sells PDF files that work just fine with whatever OS or PDF program the user prefers.

I've never had any problems using it. Just make sure that you have the latest-greatest Acrobat Reader and that you've got the activation feature activated. Matter of fact it works great and the connection speeds are always fast. I've never BOUGHT anything off their site... just downloaded the free stuff.

I have only ever had it happen once. It was via Malhavoc before they went to RPGnow.

I never had one problem with RPGnow. Nightfall, if you have had it happen multiple times, and nobody else has, what are the chances some hacker has installed a backdoor trojan on your PC?

Hacker

It's more likely that the problem is on your end of things if it's happening multiple times, because RPGnow has a secure server. It probably means that someone's listening on your line before it gets encoded. Run a scan with an updated virus checker, and then run some spyware checker like Spybot Search and Destroy. Perhaps someone has a tap on your keyboard buffer.

For the record...my position...put it on DRPG and I won't buy it...put it on RPGNow and I will (contingent on whether it is a good product and one that I can use of course). :)

Ditto.

Edit: I even do not bother to pick the free stuff on DriveThruRPG...

1. I was not one of those folks screaming that I would never buy one of your products again of you used DRM, as I had little experience with it.

2. I've purchased several products from drivethrurpg.com. I've purchased dozens from rpgnow.com.

3. I've had a least some problem with every product I bought from drivethrurpg. I've NEVER had a problem with rpgnow.com.

4. I received lackluster (at best) customer service from drivethrurpg.

5. I buy almost ALL of my rpg books via pdf if at all possible. I don't want to haul around boxes of books, I just throw them on the laptop and away I go. That way, I always have "insert your product here" with me, and I can wow and impress my mates with how cool it is (read "give you advertising" :D ).

6. In conclusion, to buy any product off of drivethrurpg, I would REALLY want to have it, and even then, I might spend time writing the publisher seeing if they will release it via rpgnow instead rather than buy it from there.

It's possible. I haven't run a virus scan...since I'm too cheap to buy one. But I've run a number of regist checks. So far everything appears normal. (Save for massive spyware infections, but after getting Bazooka, no more problems!)

Whatever's going on folks, I just don't trust RPGNow. DTR has at least served me well on that front.
