Ooh, that housecall thing is great. It caught a virus I had sitting on my computer that no other checker I have found. McAfee didn't even list it on their website so far as I could tell. It didn't clean the thing off very well, but once I knew where the problem was I took care of it myself. The bloody thing was sitting in the middle of some adware. And the virus itself was a backdoor to use my machine as a distributed porn server. Bah.

Greetings,
I am currently bouncing around the idea of putting some of our books out as PDF's and selling them on DriveThruRpg. The reason I am here is to ask if anyone has done buisiness with DriveThru and how did it go? Did you find the process fast and easy? Would you do it again?

Any feedback would be great :)

I won't buy DTRPG. I have no use for or interest in the DRM crap that makes me a product "renter' rather than a buyer

I might (subject to utility etc) buy from RPG.now though. Its a much better service

It's possible. I haven't run a virus scan...since I'm too cheap to buy one. But I've run a number of regist checks. So far everything appears normal. (Save for massive spyware infections, but after getting Bazooka, no more problems!)

Whatever's going on folks, I just don't trust RPGNow. DTR has at least served me well on that front.

AVG works for me. I'm updating it as I type this.

I do computer repair for a living, and Spybot Search and Destroy alongside Ad-Aware, with HijackThis for the really nasty stuff has never failed me. All of 'em free for personal use, for those who don't want to spend money. Exercise caution when using HijackThis, as it shows basically everything related to the browser, including stuff that belongs there. If you're not sure, look the entry up on the net.

Nightfall: On the note of computer anti virus, I think it may ber time to drop the money down and get a good one. I'd normally recommend Norton for your home PC. The free online ones are fine and dandy for those whose geek fu is strong, but for the standard client I'd recommend just going and buying norton. You'll be safer in the long run.

DarkShadow316: As for Drive Through I'll say that I have bought several online pdf's, but never through them. I just don't like being forced into restrictions on my pdf purchases that don't need to be there. As for the company itself I can't say one way or the other. From the few posts made by one of their reps they sound like a nice enough group. But they do sound like a business first and a game lover second. Great if you're a big boy with some juice behind you, not so great if you're a little start up looking to break in with a work of love project.

Nothing new to add, just another data point which has bought dozens of PDFs through RPGNow and nothing from DTRPG. I do not like that they required exclusivity of their publishers, and was less than thrilled about some boilerplate text in the initial press releases they distributed to their publisher clients.

I've had nothing but great experiences at RPGNow, and I have far more products on my hard drive (and back-up CDs) than I have even begun to read, so I don't miss those publishers which have moved to DTRPG. I often browse and follow links to RPGNow and find that adding products to my wish list there helps minimize (but never eliminates) my impulse purchases.

You can ad me to the "will never buy from DTRPG" group. In fact I am one of the radicals who is boycotting print products as well from all publishers who use DTRPG until they leave DTRPG or provide multiple download options like Malhavoc. (I will still only buy print from Malhavoc since the PDFs are sold on the WW site who also own DTRPG).
