[DRM] - Put your money where your mouth is!

Reposted from elsewhere:

Since I enjoyed a recent sales windfall on my one lonely product over at RPGNow I went out and spent that store credit along with some extra cash on the following:

Whispering Vault Collection 1
Whispering Vault Collection 2 ($5 each!, great bargain)
Darwin's World 2: Survivor's Guide
Blood and Fists
Sidewinder: Recoiled

****
And all of them are really top notch products.

Also, I did get one of my PDFs printed out nicely at a copy shop. Comb binding, heavier interior stock, cardstock covers in full color. That's a nice option to have.

To sum it up...
1) Will most copy shops print out PDFs brought in on CD?
2) Is there an on-line company that will print, bind, and ship to you PDFs that you send to them?

1) I've had a number of experiences. The first kinkos I went to said "Yes, but sign this cover-our-ass memo first." The second kinkos just printed them right out.

2) I believe Kinkos has a similar service, yes. Check thier website.

This brings up a good point re PDF publishers.

A disclaimer notice on the first page stating: "This material was originally sold in PDF form and may be printed and duplicated by any lawful purchaser of the product. Print Houses will not be held accountable for any copyright infringement that may occur." might be a good idea.

Oh, yeah, I picked $15 worth of BESM stuff just before GOO went to the dark side of the force, and after I pick up M&M today at the store, I'm going to buy just about every superlink product listed there.

While is was not done in protest, I just bought a copy of Treasures of Freeport.

I've bought a ton of PDFs from RPGNow and am a big fan of the whole process. I fully admit that DTRPG with it's DRM and monopolistic practices, makes me want to stay far, far away from any of their products.

I'll have to see how well my resolve holds up once Malhavok releases Hyperconcious :\

I went ahead and picked up some of the old TSR modules I've been thinking about for some time.

However, I'm also going to pick up some things from DTRPG as well. The DRM doesn't bother me much, and there are some good products there.

Dungeon Crawl Classics #2: The Lost Vault of Tsathzar Rho, by Goodman Games.
I would have bought it anyways, though :D
Now I just have to get time to read it... there goes my weekend...

I bought a bunch of stuff from RPGNow Friday and Saturday, before I really knew about DTRPG, including The Dying Earth RPG (Pelgrane), Valley of Frozen Tears (Ancient Awakenings), Crystalmancy (EN Publishing), Gates of Troy (SteamPower Publishing), A Magical Society: Ecology and Culture (Expeditious Retreat), and Fringe Fauna (Khan's Press). I also picked up HARP over at Iron Crown's website.

I'm tentatively checking out the free products at DTRPG, but I haven't decided yet whether or not I'll buy from them. I'm leaning towards Kesh's viewpoint, but I don't really know what I'm going to do yet.

Best,
Nick

Now this is a durn fine idea, Maddman! Put our $$$ where are mouths are. I, too, shall join in on this, as soon as I figure out *what* to buy. :)

I've done quite a lot of shopping at RPGNow, and I'll continue to do so. I think I'll complete my Planescape collection this month.

I've bought from RPGNow in the past, but it has been less and less as I've gotten poorer and poorer. But I've signed up with my current email address and already received my first product, in REAL PDF form. Actually two PDFs -- one well hyperlinked and useful on-screen, and the other specially set up for printing. You know, as if I were a *customer* instead of an assumed enemy.

Go, RPGNow!
