[DRM] - Put your money where your mouth is!

I've bought from RPGNow in the past, but it has been less and less as I've gotten poorer and poorer. But I've signed up with my current email address and already received my first product, in REAL PDF form. Actually two PDFs -- one well hyperlinked and useful on-screen, and the other specially set up for printing. You know, as if I were a *customer* instead of an assumed enemy.

Go, RPGNow!

And thank you for your purchase, Cyberzombie! And thanks to everyone else who's supported us as well.

I hope that we'll continue to deliver what customers want.

One Copy with bookmarks and all graphics for viewing.
One Copy with bookmarks and fewer graphics to ease printing costs.
And both Copies without any "protection."

I own the copyright, my cutomers own their copies.

Seems simple. I want your money, you want my product. Once we've enchanged that's the end of our business relationship. It's yours.

My purchase today was your Magical Medieval Society: Western Europe pdf. Very impressive. Bookmarks, print-friendly version...and the content is second to none. :)

No copies for the Elven kings under the sky or Dwarven lords in their halls of stone? ;)

This is one of the biggest draws, for me. I like having the full-graphics version, but I love having a faster-loading copy for quick reference and easier reading.

EDIT: Picked up the following, today:

A couple new miniatures wargaming rule sets

For The Masses
Clash of Steel Miniatures Rules

A board game:

Monkey, Ninja, Pirate, Robot Deluxe

And a card game + 2 expansions:

F*ck This!

F*ck This! expansion #1 (Sex, drugs and rock & roll)

F*ck This expansion #2 (Supersized profanity)

I don't deal with Dwarves. Short. Hairy.

Smell like cabbage.....

Well, if you want to help out the publishers that are at RPGNow and help RPGNow make some money, this is the route to go. Considering the fact that several people have listed products I have contributed to, I say go for it.

If you want to send a message to DTRPG, a polite email message stating that you won't purchase products X, Y, and Z, that you would normally be interested in, due to the DRM restrictions for whatever reasons you have (linux, printer hassles, work hassles, whatever). You can also CC the message to whichever publisher makes X, Y, or Z. They aren't going to "hear" you spend money someplace else. They might, however, "hear" you if you say, "I would spend $ with you, but I won't because ..."

Publishers aren't going to monitor every message board, but they do try to respond to polite emails and at least read them even if they are swamped and can't directly respond. I have said it elsewhere, DTRPG is less than a week old (unless I am mistaken), I am sure that changes will be made to satisfy customers.

All the debate on DTRPG got me thinking, got me wanting to DO something to make the message crystal clear to the industry. I don't believe this is a few grumbling message board loons, but a sizeable number of the customer base. We need to demonstrate that DRM is not the path the PDF buying public will support.

So I urge all of you to take a trip to RPGNow and buy a PDF. If you've been meaning to pick something up for awhile now, this is the time! Or if you've never tried it, go for it now! The prices on RPGNow are very reasonable. Even if you're unsure of whether you'll like getting RPGs as a PDF there are tons of books available for as little as $5. Or several for less than that, though $5 is the minimum order.

Be sure to come back here and let everyone know what you bought. I'd like to support RPGNow for providing low cost access to open, useable PDFs as well as send a message to DriveThruRPG that their measures are not pleasing to the public.

PS - I'm in no way associated with RPGNow or any RPG company of any kind. Just doing this of my own volition.

OK, I'll get the new Psionics cards. I'd better get it before I break my XPH double checking myself on the revised powers.

And I'll add a few of Ronin Arts little books on the side. I was waiting for an All-In-One book (Hint, Hint).

The message I'm wanting to send it specifically to the companies that have *stayed* with RPGnow rather than jump ship. I'm sure that DTRPG has their email box overflowing with complaints, and many of the people involved have talked about this here, on RPGNet and elsewhere. The idea is to respond in a positive way, rather than doing more whinging.

Not that I'm going to stop with the whinging, mind you. :)

Great idea! I buy a lot of PDfs from www.rpgnow.com and I have no problem supporting the wonderful job they do. I copied the partial list of pdfs they claim I have bought in the very recent past. I am not sure how far back they keep a record, but I know it is far more than this list. Unless my wife is reading this post, in which case it is actually far less and RPGNOW has an inflated record of my purchases.

I will not purchase anything from the new company. Which really bites. I love Monte's stuff and I will miss his great material! Goodbye, dear sir.

Okay, I guess that wasn't clear to me. Like I said, I am for both.

If people buy more books, more books will be published, the more books that are published, well, the more people will be needed to write, edit, or develop them.

Basically, I just think people should buy more books. :)

I just picked these up as well. Awesome deal!
I took the pdf version of Diamond Throne to Kinkos, and they wouldn't print it for me. Something about a copyright problem? Maybe the attendant was just being snide? :(
