Greetings!
I realise that for many, the drow elves have been done to death, and have been the routine villain for many groups, and alternatively, the source of many players tweaked characters. However, it seems to me that there is more to the drow elves than many seem to exploit.
Forgotten Realms and Drizzt are not, my friends, and should not--be the last word on drow elves. The drow elves of the demonweb pits existed long before their later incarnations, and their inspiration goes far back into Celtic and Norse mythology.
For example, in my campaign, I have many kingdoms of drow elves that are lawful evil--the very environment, filled with danger and many enemies all around, seems to my mind to scream out for the need for ruthless unity and precise and total discipline for the drow to survive and prosper. Thus, ask yourself what *Lawful Evil* drow kingdoms might be like, and how they would operate in your world. The drow can be used far more effectively and with more flair and style than they have seem to have devolved into. Imagine a great subterranean kingdom of lawful evil drow, allied with devils and with lawful evil duergar, and see what they can do, and create!
Have you developed the drow differently? If so, how? Do you think that the drow elves from the classic days of years ago have more potential than what they have devolved into?
