Lots of good input. It seems like the most reasonable (and legal) way to explain what happened was something like this:
1. I was transported in, in a legal manner.
2. I lost initiative (which did happen).
3. BBEG casts Forcecage (box). Then in the same round, as a second action (I think he had split mind or something) or a move equivalent action he trips the trap, initiating an Anti Magic Field centered on my square.
4. I'm toast.
This whole encounter was part of the storyline and I don't think we were meant to avoid it. Did I mention we all escaped alive without losing our stuff?
