Dry spell?

We play card games when we don't want to D&D. Like Munchkin (sp?). Light hearted game that pokes fun of D&D and can wacky. Something different.

I went through a dryspell after college. My wife and I were the only gamers I knew.
I read and reread my old books. Occasionally looked on the internet for news and tried a solo game with my wife, but mostly just kept rereading my old books and hoping to find other gamers.
While searching the net one day I ran across your old boards and read about the new edition coming out and I went there every day (several times a day actually). After coming back from Gencon with my new 3E books I once again put a notice in a local bookstore and found 5 new gamers.
Been gaming semi regularly since. Hope you dry spell ends soon.

I think I'm getting too much gaming, because when I read the title, I thought "Metamagic Feat - Dry Spell"

It can function in perfectly dry or amazingly hot conditions, but it takes up a spell slot higher... the perfect feats for water Elementalists.

I think I should be cut off.

Yeah I'm just getting out of a dry spell. Since I came to college I haven't really been playing. But I've finally found a game.

Kinda going through a dry spell now. It's just been hard trying to get everyone together on the same night.

Our Eberron game has been on hold for over a month now. Since then, I've been running a Tomb of Horrors one-shot, which has lasted for several weeks. Last weekend we tried out the D&D Miniature's Game and the weekend before I ran a one shot for a potential new RPG player.

Hopefully this upcoming weekend will end the spell.

Not currently in a dry spell. We have a good group going now for an every other week game and with Con season drawing even closer it should be a fun summer.

When I got back into the game about a year and half or two ago I ran into a dry spell. That was mainly due to getting back into the scene, finding out who I knew that was interested in playing, etc.

I don't think I would get much enjoyment out of this style of gaming. I think it's the pacing and the lack of direct social interaction that I would have trouble with.

The pacing can take some getting used to. But if you find a good game you can really get into your character. In a good group most everyone will have thought out characters and play them realy in character making it even easier to immerse yourself in your own character. Over time the group of players has their own socializing through OOC comments and such.

It does take a good group and sometimes it is hard to find one of these. Even with all of the groups out there it seems few of them are able to keep the intensity up over an extended period, but when you find one it can be a gratifying experience.

*EDIT* Curses! And after I post this I just get an email from the DM in a PBeM game I have been in for over a year is ending due to DM burnout!

I'm stuck in an RPG dry spell myself. Had to lose my awesome group when I moved in August, and haven't gotten another game going yet. Nearly found a nearby group to try out through this site, but realized that my schedule probably wouldn't mesh so decided not to start what I couldn't finish. My roommates and I were making noise about starting a game, but a couple of them weren't committed enough for it to get off the ground. Sigh...one day. Of course, my RL schedule is a lot fuller since I moved, so that's not helping me get a game going, either.

On the upside, I've found a group that meets for wargaming regularly, so my Warhammer and 40K armies are finally getting the use that they've been craving for years.

Anyone here going through a dry spell where you're not gaming much if at all? What kinds of RPG activities do you do during such a time to keep involved in the hobby? What impediments are keeping you from being in a game right now?
Yeah, I am. One game went on the shelf due to a break-up, another is on hold because the DM got a new job, and a third ended because the DM got bored with D&D--I went from three games per month to none. It doesn't matter a heck of a lot to me, though, since I haven't had a real drive to play in a while. I've felt in a rut caused by too much focus on prepping my games, and also too much focus on the mechanics. I'm looking forward to playing again with a de-emphasis on the crunch; at least, that's going to be my approach when I roleplay.

I'm actually going to run a quick one-off this Saturday, hopefully, with a fresh group dynamic. I'm looking forward to it.

This is something I can relate to unfortunately. Been having a dry spell over the last 2 years since I moved to another country for work. The group that I've been DMing for the last 14 years kinda splintered after my departure: one moved to the US for studies, another got caught up in various business ventures, and the other two were just not close enough to ressurect a game regardless of my absence. My visits back home are usually too brief to manage squeezing in a game in between catching up with everyone. Hoping at some stage in the new future, where ever i may end up there'd be an opportunity to plug into a local D&D group. I miss the hobby. In the mean time i craft crunch for a possible homebrew I've been moulding in my head over the last two years, and lurk in these forum pages picking up on some pretty nifty ideas that come out on a regular basis, and just generally getting inspired.
