Dude Where's My Ring? (DM: garyh, Judge: Ozymandias79)

Once Magnus starts his meandering Kamotz address' the group in general, but especially the Dauntonians.

When we get back to town, I'd like to visit the Temple of Death. Do they hire often? I'd love to be a collector...

Magnus pours over the undergrowth and, with the help of his companions, is able to find not just the two familiar foot prints, but many prints of large, heavy, crude boots, made very shortly after the first two sets passed this way - perhaps a half-dozen individuals, but it's hard to say, it could be even more.

Moving forward a ways, the dwarf finds signs of a brief struggle - underbrush torn, footsteps back and forth in the area, dark patches in the mud that might be blood - and going north from there, Magnus sees only the heavy, crude prints. Given that there are no signs of burial or of humanoid remains, it seems that the first two travelers must have been carried north as captives from that point.

OOC: Skill challenge successfully completed! Sorry for the delay, I've been really busy this last week. I'll post another update Sunday night moving to the next scene, but feel free to speculate as to the above info, and roll any further checks you might want.

Magnus paced back and forth across the site of the struggle. Strange eyes taking in the scene while occasionally mumbling to himself. Soon he broke into and odd, gleeful cackle.

Hehehe...around and around...stranger and stranger the pattern grows...what new twist...what new turn...hehehe...where is She taking us do you think?

He turned to the shifter then answering him as though he'd only just heard the question.

Why visit a temple...when all the world's a shrine? Hehehe.

So many mysteries...so full of mysteries..., the words trailed off as Magnus crouched down to the ground again, intently studying the prints left there.

To decipher who or what might have created the footprints.

As near as Magnus can tell, the prints could be from hobgoblin, orc, or human boots, but it's not very clear to his eyes.

Suddenly, Mikara's sensitive elven ears catch the faint sound of crude, raucous laughter from up ahead, at too great a distance for any of the others to note. The noise seems to have come from a fair distance away.

Mikara's head jerks up. With a new sense of urgency, signals to catch the attention of the group. Moving from one member of the pack to another she whispers....

Something is laughing on the road ahead.
I do not think that it has heard us yet.

Keep your steps quiet.
Do not make a single sound.
We may find them yet.

Mikara then signals that she will be scouting ahead.

She pads through the forest on cat-like feet, melting into the leaves until she is gone.

Vrrsk't listens to the shifter and the dwarf talk about temples of death and heathen shrines. He bites his tongue, deciding there has been enough internal conflict for the day.

Vrrsk't nods at Mikara's words and scans the woods around him for signs of an attack. His great dragon-like head turns in a slow circle and he takes stock of the situation around him. He seems tense, ready for an attack, with his hand hovering over the flail on his belt.

Perception (1d20+2=4)

He's clearly saving himself for combat... :/

[sblock=OOC] Oh yeah, kick the crazy up a notch! OW!

This group of oddballs is heading for combustion. Seemingly anything can touch off at least one member of the group.

Kamotz crouches and tries to stealthily flank with Mikara. He moves out 30 feet away from Mikara first, and the moves straight in the direction of the disturbance.

As Mikara closes on her quarry, she readies her bow and nocks an arrow. She takes care not to come too close as she finds herself a concealed vantage point from which to observe the source of heedless mirth.

Evidently the foliage is too thick, and the ground too dry to get a good look at more than what is in plain sight.

Heeding Mikara's warning Magnus ceased his rambling. Evidently enough sense remained to know when it was time to be quiet. Still, when ever he moved the soft jingle of the keys that adorned him drifted across the air. He shuffled over to a large tree and kept out of sight as best as he was able.

Just trying to hide in cast those scouting end up leading the enemy back to us.

Speaking of which that might not be a half bad plan. As I'm guessing several of our group won't be sneaking up on anyone. :)
