Dude Where's My Ring? (DM: garyh, Judge: Ozymandias79)

Vrrsk't is not pleased by this elf woman he's only just met pointing her weapon at him in a threatening manner.

He bellows at the elf after she stops threatening him with her weapon. "HEY!"

[sblock=If she stops to listen...]If she stops to listen to him, he will shout at her from where he stands[/sblock][sblock=If she doesn't stop...]If she doesn't stop or turn to acknowledge him, he runs up to her and grabs her arm to shout directly into her face.[/sblock]
"Whose side are you on? Would you turn against us if this mission puts us against the denizens of this forest? The next time a nature spirit attacks, will you defend it or us? If you raise your weapon against me ever again -- EVER -- I will put you down myself! You hide beneath the shade of your trees and act as if this whole place is not a haven for more insidious darkness! I will bring the burning light of Apoli to this place if need be, and you'll burn with the rest if you stand against me! I ask again... whose side are you on?"

A prickly tuft of hair stirs as Mikara's right ear lifts in response to Vrrsk't's challenge.

No doubt. The wyrm will surely keep his word.

Mikara turns to face Vrrsk't and Kamotz, listening silently for the duration of the vent, and then speaks softly.

"Poor Kamotz, please I pray you understand,
has clumsiness to blame for his last stand.
And having not correct humility,
overlooked his responsibility,
and blamed a peaceful tree with stubborn pride.
Save flail, scythe, bow for evil trees that stride.
His grievous sin has hurt us all. You see,
he struck a living thing in bigotry,
and gave the forest reason not to aid
us in our quest to find these renegades.
My bow is yours. I bid you, though, repent.
Be humble, and protect the innocent."

Mikara looks at the trees, and then, smiling, looks back at Vrrsk't and Kamotz.

"At least, with me on point, it's me they'd strike.
And being here you'll have me in your sight"

frilly little fools in the forest

Mikara resumes her inspection of the path for clues as to the whereabouts of their quarry.

[sblock=Skill Check:]Not sure if my previous check yielded anything useful, but it seemed to be a good enough score.

Perception: 1d20+10=13

In any case, this check is not that great. Not sure what the DCs are.

Mikara is able to detect some trampled undergrowth, which tells her that someone who possessed little woodcraft went this way in the last several days (Perception success).

Kamotz blunders into a tree, and in the ensuing scythe attack, slices away what might have been a spore of their quarry... but it's gone. The shifter will never know now (Perception failure).

Vrrsk't, distracted by Kamotz, is unable to be of any assistance to Mikara (fail with aid another to Mikara with Perception).

Morvannon, ignoring the antics of Kamotz, Vrrsk't, and Mikara, is able to point out the faint impression of a boot to Magnus (success with aid another to magnus with Perception).

Magnus is able to tell that the footprint came from a human-sized foot, and that the style of the sole of boot matches that worn by the Red Boots of Daunton (Perception success).

Continuing on the deer path, Mikara notices another print, this one smaller than the last, and made by much less sturdy shoes (Perception success).

Skill Challenge: Navigate the Starkreach Woods to track Dennis and Gwendolyn.
Complexity 5 (Requires 12 successes before 3 failures)
Primary skills: Nature, Perception
Secondary skills: Endurance, Insight

7 Successes, 2 Failures.

Mikara's pulse begins to quicken.

Stooping down to examine the path, she traces out the impression of a feminine shoe.

Mangus has found one,
and I have found the other.
But how long ago?

[sblock=Skill Check:]
Nature: 1d20+5=21

to determine how old the footprint is, how fast it might have been going, the likely direction of travel, or anything else that may be of use.[/sblock]

She motions to gain the attention of the others in the pack.
Upon getting their attention, she points to Mangus' find, then down at her own, and then forward indicating that the pack should follow.

Magnus looked back the way they had come, his fingers tracing some pattern in the air. If he could understand the pattern of their route perhaps he could predict some destination or at least the next movement. The dwarf paced back and forth occasionally stopping and listening, then nodding.

Yes....yes...

Perception check to Aid Another on Kamotz's next check[/sblock]

Morvannon begins to relax, his movements free-er as he becomes more accustomed to the pace. "It's been a long time since I was this far away from a roof," he says, "but honestly I can think of far worse places to be. At least it's shady."

[sblock=OOC]Endurance check (+2): 1d20+2=20 Whoo, IC likes me![/sblock]

Mikara sees Kamotz's puzzled expression as he contemplates the clues collected so far.

Perhaps the shifters mind could use some aid.
I'll offer thoughts. Perhaps I'll be repaid.

"Kamotz. Copper for your thoughts?

[sblock=Skill Check:]Aid Another - Insight: 1d20+3=6 Dang! I think I just cooked us here.[/sblock]

Though I seem to have none to offer."

The Trees are evil... I smell it, or is that...

Kamotz catches the scent of perfume again,

Mikara! Do you smell that?

Kamotz stalks forward finding concentrations of the scent and alerting Mikara's nose to them.

It's them, can you lead us there by that scent?
