Dungeon 100 Incursion

CrazyMage

4th Level Lawful Good Cleric
The hefty anniversary issue appeared in the mail today, and here's a quick summary of things.

--A new feature (I think it's new...) Agents and Allies. Like Critical Threats, only not enemies. First one is Derthan Kaderas (done by Monte Cook)

--Critical Threat: Master Thest (Advanced Dire Weretoad Rog6)

--Dungeon retrospective with comments from previous editors. By the way, I liked the title "Quill or be Quilled."

--Old Embers Never Die. 12th Level. Updates the dragon Flame from previous adventures. Pages 25-45. Includes some feats as previews of the Draconomicon.

--Agent and Allies: Lone Tooth. Dire Lion Mnk12.

--Woe to Mistledale. FR 7th level. Pages 49-68

--Critical Threats Hungash, Hobgoblin Wiz9

--Beast of Burden. 6th level. Pages 73-95

--The Lich-Queen's Beloved. 18th Level. Pages 97-139.

Polyhedron side is rules and background for playing githyanki characters.

Large poster map with githyanki related baddies on one side, and a large overview map of Tu'narath, the githyanki capital.

If you like the art of Wayne Reynolds, you are in luck. Not just lots of githyanki goodness, but also artwork advertising for edition 3.5.

Previews for Dun101/Poly160
--Prison of the Firebringer (FR 13th level) A cult is trying to free a slaad
--Subscriber section Chasm Bridge. Originally from Dragon 131, but now revised for 3.5. 6th level
--Poly Iron Lords of Jupiter d20 Modern Mini-Game of Planetary Adventure

is there any Living Greyhawk Journal in this issue? The first time it was in Poly was good stuff, but it wasn't in the alst issue...

No. The impression I got is that this issue was "set aside" as a special feature since it is the 100th issue of Dungeon. They mention in the letter column that the intent of the Adventure Path series was to have it in the even numbered issues, but skipped this one because they didn't want to interfere with the anniversary celebration.

I really dislike the extra "features" in Dungeon. I wish they would incorporate all of their "Critical Threats" into sidetreks at least. The Agent and Allies material is much the same - please put it in an adventure.

DMs are going to pull "critical threats" and "agents and allies" from the adventures anyway. Dungeon should quit being lazy - don't just give us encounters - give us adventures.

Don't like Critical Threats

I heartily agree with pogre. I don't really find Critical Threats useful. I can easily come up with an encounter on my own. But I don't have time to design whole adventures, and that is why I get Dungeon. So I consider Critical Threats (and this new feature) a waste of space in the magazine.

A third agreement from me. I remember Roger Moore writing in one of the letters columns from an early Dungeon that they didn't want to water down the strong format of the magazine with stuff like this. Not an improvement, IMO.

So as not to end on a bad note, the Adventure Path is a great improvement to the magazine. If Paizo folks read this, more in that vein, please...

"Into The Fire" and "Out of the Ashes" IIRC...

Can you give me issue numbers please? And, if you can recall, a brief summary and what campaign world (if any) they were set on? Thanks!
