Dungeon Adventure Path: Life's Bazaar, Pt. II

OOC for Thels: Cassandra is going down the tunnel Sando's looking [literally AFAIC] down? Just wanted to make sure that this was the case before I pushed this along.

Everyone: Vorik shuffles his feet. "Maybe we should explore these tunnels. It could be a more effective, and safer, way for us to get around Jzadirune."

"So? You really think it would be safer to use tunnels? I take it that you have never been out there in the wilderness. Whatever dug these tunnels is probably still around and I think our friends back there are prime candidates for this. When we enter the tunnels we'll have to play on their grounds and under their conditions; not exactly something I like. Still, you've got a point with this: Unless we fumble around with and get killed by the doors, they are out next best choice. But this doesn't mean I've got to like it." Carrach replies to Vorik.

"As to you, Cassandra. You certainly won't be taking a front position in the tunnels. That weapon of yours might be handy out in the open, but only of little use in confined spaces."

"We have three rooms by now with tunnels in them, two here and the one we encountered earlier. Now, according to this map ..., hmm, this is interesting."

Carrach begins to eye the southern wall of the hallway, looking for anything out of place.

[OoC: Carrach will search the wall in question; first by a visual inspection to see if he can discern anything unusual. Can he say anything about the age of the southern wall in comparison with the rest of the complex?
If this leads to nothing, he will give a wall a full search, looking for any kind of secret door like the one he found in the north.]

OOC: Nope, just watching over his back. I'm not getting in front of him.

"Oh yeah? You watch and see! Anyhnow, I'd rather fight creatures in tunnels than strolling from trapped door to trapped door. This will take forever!"

"What's up Carrach? Something not match up?" Rothgar asks of his fellow hobgoblin.

"Indeed. According to the map we got from Ghelve, this wall shouldn't even exist. Now the question is whether it was a later addition or something else is going on here. I believe the first option to be rather unlikely; why would the original inhabitants suddenly erect a wall here when they already built a complex of this magnitude?

Regarding the second option, however: Since our "friends" seem to be moving mainly by the tunnels, it might make sense for them to wall certain sections off to create defensive corridors to channel possible attackers. If this is the case, we might gain an advantange by breaching the wall here to disrupt any established defense patterns.

So, let's see what a thorough examination will yield."

"Oh yeah? You watch and see! Anyhow, I'd rather fight creatures in tunnels than strolling from trapped door to trapped door. This will take forever!"

"Perhaps. I'm not the most patient of creatures either, but blindly rushing ahead will certainly result in nothing good, especially in this trap- and enemy-infested complex." Carrach calmly replies, blatantly ignoring (or totally unaware of) Sando's wild eye-rolling.

Carrach: Careful examination of the wall proves your suspicions. The wall does not exist. Although it doesn't disappear when you touch it, you can put your hand straight through it without causing yourself any harm.

Beyond the illusory wall is a room, roughly thirty square feet large, with doors in the middle of the eastern and western walls. Carved into the south wall is a large map showing various interconnected rooms and corridors. The lines of the map glow faintly, but the corners of the room are still bathed in shadow.

Cassandra: You see the same thing Sando has seen: the tunnel ends roughly twenty feet from its entrance and then branches off to the north and south. It looks as though it were recently created.

"My, my. So the map was right and there is no wall at all.

Your brethren have done some interesting work here," Carrach adds in Sando's direction.

...

"Let's take a look a this version of the map!"

Carrach will move cautiously forward, constantly checking the room (mostly the floor) in front of him, as he's not sure whether the creator gnomes left some other devious traps.

Rothgar jumps with a start as Carrach just 'walks through the wall." When he test the wall he to finds it insubstantial, he follows his brother a little into the room where he can watch him while listening for trouble from behind.
