Dungeon Magazine #113 Is In

The Eberron map covers a continent that stretches 5000 miles, showing various mountain ranges, plains, some rivers, inland seas, huge forested areas, but no cities.

They gave us as a free gift a map of a continent with nations marked, and no cities, roads, lightning rail lines or any other signs of civilisation? How wonderfully useless. hopefully issue #114's poster map of the Isle of Dread will be more intelligently put together!

Isn't that a bit excessive?

Sweet. When do the WotC adventures start coming out?

All hell breaks loose in the city of Cauldron, as a long-dormant volcano sputters to life. The heroes must deal with the terrible consequences, ushering citizens to safety and negotiating fiend-filled streets littered with collapsed buildings. And with the death of the Lord Mayor, who will lead what's left of the city? A Shackled City Adventure Path adventure for 15th level characters. By Chris Thomasson
<shameless plug>

Between this and my 5th Chronicle of Anyaka over at Dire Kobold, there are a lot of "city ravaged by flaming demonic terror" adventures coming out. :)

Futurstic roleplaying games are only as good as their starship rules. This article, written by d20 Future co-author and frequent Polyhedron contributor Rodney Thompson, introduces the concept of starship class templates. Your spaceships will never again be the same.
I'm looking forward to d20 Future, I'm glad this article made it in.

Also we have the comic strips Downer and Mt. Zogon.
Mt. Zogon continues to get better and better. The one about the haunted wine had me laughing out loud.

What makes it not interesting, and what makes the next one interesting to you?

Well to begin with I look to Dungeon because I have very little time to work on my own adventures, so I like the convenience. That being said, issue 113 doesn't have much I can use "out of the box."

I have no interest in Eberron so the map isn't much use to me and neither is the adventure. While I like the Shackled City stuff, my campaign is currently in its infancy so a 15th level adventure isn't going to do me much good. The level hinderence can be applied to the other adventure, which happens to be Forgotten Realms, which is another problem. The d20 Future stuff in the farewell Polyhedron may be interesting, though I don't expect to have d20 Future anytime soon, much less run it. The only thing of any immediate use to me would be the Knights of Holy Shielding and honestly I grow weary of Prestige Classes.

As for issue 114, it has a bit more that at first glance looks like it will be easy to use immediately, particularly the Greyhawk adventure. Being an old timer, I have fond memories of the Isle of Dread so getting an adventure, a map and new monsters is something to look forward to. Additionally the new format sounds interesting so I'm anxious to see how crunchy it is. The only thing I really don't look forward to in that issue is the Shackled City adventure, but that's more because I can't immediately use it.

This all being said, it's not that I'm disappointed with Dungeon, after all I do have a subscription because I think it is a great magazine. When I have the time, it is a great source of material that can be converted to my needs. Sometimes, however, time is not on my side and I have to work with what is available without conversion. That's what I'm dealing with now, just bad luck that 2 months of Dungeon didn't provide anything I could easily work with. Who knows, six months from now I could come back to 113 and get a great deal of use out of it.

Yes, I must say, I was considering buying this edition just for the Eberron map, but it sounds like exactly what WotC has on their website.

I love the Eberron setting (so far), but WotC *REALLY* dropped the frickin ball with not including a really well done out map. Their QA department needs a good spanking.

Sounds like a good reason to write in to Paizo and WotC and complain. Letters go further than forum ranting. :)

Heh wait for the mail page/s in #116 or so. I think we'll see a few doing just that.

Erik Mona said the Dungeon will continue to contain periodic "Approved for use with Living Greyhawk" articles like a write up of Rel Astra and Irongate this fall.

But where's the Knights of the Hart and the Old Lore Bards? :)
