Here's what you'll find of note in Dungeon/Poly Sept/Oct 2002:
First off, get ready for some sticker shock. The cover price has jumped from $5.99 to $7.99 per issue. Paizo's president Johnny Wilson explains (in his editorial entitled "Hated, Once More!") that it is necessary "in order to insure that I can continue to publish Dungeon/Polyhedron at the present level of quality." He also provides a handy-dandy list of other D20 compatible products ranging from WotC's own Prophecies of the Dragon to products from Mystic Eye Games and Fiend Games (?? that one threw me) to show that Dungeon/Poly is still an incredibly good value in terms of price per page. He also notes that those who already have subscriptions or who get subscriptions before GenCon will get them at the old subscription price.
The Dungeon side includes 5 adventures (including one featuring an illithid-run prison), two Critical Threats, a sheet of monster tokens, and two maps of mystery.
The highlights of the Poly side include:
News that RPGA membership is now free, and plans for a special Chessex battlemat for those who had paid memberships prior to July 1, 2002.
Countdown to D20 Modern features a look at the Agents of PSI campaign model, which blends paranormal mental abilities with the spy genre.
Company Profile: Necromancer Games (interview with Clark Peterson).
"Stop that Monkey!" is an expansion to Thunderball Rally, and features rules for creating and running orangutan characters (!).
And of course, the mini-game: Jonathan Tweet's Omega World. You get random mutations and defects. You start at 4th level. There's three "races" but only one class -- Explorer. Monsters include things like androids, hoops, baders, orlens, and deathbots, oh my! Cryptic Alliances like Friends of Entropy or Knights of Genetic Purity. You get the picture -- it's Gamma World for D20.
