D&D 5E (2014) Dungeonscape Lives!

IMHO this is the best case scenario.

1) They Kill the KS before it fails too bad
2) They rework it all to be iOS only campaign neutral note keeping system
3) Make it local storage (no cloud support to keep upkeep costs low)
4) Sell it for $2.99
5) Use the proceeds to Kick out an Android port (sell it for $2.99)
6) If they are making money allow it to accept Hero Lab characters (The most popular)
7) Keep iterating until it finally is the app they wanted.

I suggested to them they do this, but they said they discussed a scaled back campaign before launch, and decided against it. I seriously hope they reconsider. I don't think it's that big a problem to start with iOS and one or two modules, and add the other platforms and modules as stretch goals, or as additional Kickstarter campaigns at a later date.

IIRC, that's what Beamdog did for Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition. Two years later, you can buy three full games in that series on a wide range of platforms. There's something to be said for incremental goals.

Today being the release of the DMG, I thought this quote from Jeremy Crawford (courtesy of http://www.polygon.com/2014/12/8/7353743/d-and-d-dungeon-masters-guide-5th-edition) was appropriate:

"Our small team couldn't finish the books at the same time and also ensure their high quality. We could either stagger their releases, or we could sit on the books until all three were finished."

Although many customers didn't like the idea of WotC staggering the release of the Core books, it was clearly the right choice due to their desire to allow people to play the game as soon as possible.

I think Trapdoor needs to take a page from their book. Yes, it would be great if they could release all of Morningstar's modules, on all platforms, immediately. But it's becoming increasingly clear the funding they need to make this happen isn't going to be raised, so reassessing the situation seems wise.

Is this still a D&D5 thread?

I wish Trapdoor all the best, but I can't see that kicker going anywhere.

In particular for yet another PF tool.

Trapdoor has invested a lot, and, for what I know, might need this to save the company, so I understand if they go for PF - they have to try, after all.

But they lost me there. I'm interested in a D&D5 tool, but I'm not certain I really need one.
