Somewhere there was a site that focused on reviews of D&D/d20 products. Where was that? Oh yeah, here! ;)

Oddly enough, Dungeon World gets an average of a 3* review in the review sections. The other books in the series get *** and **.

Dungeon World - 8 reviews
Catacombs - 2 reviews
Secrets of the Enemy Capital - 1 review

The biggest stumbling block is that it was from Fast Forward Games, who were notorious for their lack of attention to rules details (John Cooper probably collapses whenever he gets near one of their books).

I think they made 3-4 supplements. Some had to be destroyed, because they referred to WOTC IP - namely gods and such from the PHB (that were Greyhawkian). Pelor, etc.

Anyway, conceptially, it's a pretty decent idea, although not super-original. Basically if a PC dies, they end up in Dungeonworld, and if he escapes, he can live again.

However, the implementation really blows. Not quite useless, but close to it. If you can get all of them for $10, it's probably worth it. Any more than that, well, I wouldn't.

I hear that they actually put material from Savage Species in that particular one. They also had books that referenced core deities and creatures from the MMII.

Did they ever read the OGL? :confused:

No wonder why they went under. Bad products combined with the fact that they also had to get rid of some of the crud that they actually managed to put out in the first place.

Apologies for the threadjack. :o

Fast Forward just annoyed me in the way that they put out crud and then took offence when anyone criticised it. I can't image how many people were put off all 3rd party products after buying one of their books.

Okay here goes. Anyone who followed the intro's to Fast Forward books knows it was run and managed by a bunch of old-school TSR folks with great ideas who just couldn't get up to speed with the new millennia and understand there was now a cohesive rules set to follow. In other words, back in the day Jim Ward had no problem giving a regular orc a "-10" armor class in a dungeon and claim it was a magic force field, and that carried over to their products.

"Who cares if the numbers are a bit off, it's a game, for crying out loud, the DM shoud able able to make up whatever modifications he wants"....which is fine for the old days, but it doesn't exactly cut it with the d20 system in published products of today. They were creating stats like they were making them for their home games, not the public (at least that's the impression I got).

Dungeon World and its products were a very good read, actually. It does not take much at all to throw out stupid rules like "clerics diminishing" or to adjust a giant's hit dice or AC a bit or throw out their spells and prestige classes (which didn't make up most of the Dungeon World books anyway).

By the way, I'm not 100% defending it, though. $5-$10 is a fair price for it, yes. I ran a two-shot game there and my players loved it. It's what the DM does with it.
