Dwarven Stronghold - a community effort

Hi,
I had an idea for the barbarians of the settlement. If anyone plays Warhammer then they will know about the Slayers for a dwarf army, what they are is a cult of dwarves who have failed in some way or broken an oath, to redeem themselves they swear an oath and dye their hair orange, take the biggest axe they can find and set out to seek honourable death in combat by finding the largest monster they can find and attempt to slay it. THe are several ranks starting at Trollslayer, then Giant slayer, then its either Dragonslayer or Daemonslayer (but I cant remember). What does everyone think about this idea, please feel free to shout at me for being so stupid.
Thanks for your time.

Don't forget Skavenslayer! :)

It's a good idea, but we'll want to be wary of stepping on Gotrek's copyrighted little toes! Work something up and we will likely be able to find a place for it!

Oh, and since you asked for it: Great job Stupid! ;)

*sorry, I crack myself up sometimes!*

I can see the merits either way of a 'open' project and a 'sold' one. Now, I'm not sure exactly how hard it is to sell the PDF's, but... one idea would be to leave the group open, and let people take a look at anything we come up with there. However, when we're finished, we make a nicely formatted copy, with art etc., and market that via Natural d20 - the best of both worlds. We send something through the press - if we do this I'd like to see profits go to the boards - and still allow those who don't want to spend the cash to have a 'rougher' version. I know that, given the option, I wouldn't complain myself about forking out $5 for a cleaned up, 'pretty' copy of something I could get for free... but I wouldn't object if I didn't want to spend the money either, since the information was still there, albeit a little sporadically.

(Yes, I repeated myself several times there - it's all coming out garbled right now... you know how that is, I'm sure. If not, Beanbag seems to be pretty good at calling people 'stupid' ;) so feel free!)

closed and open

I agree that the product will be more viable if it is closed development, and I think that would be a good way to go. I like the idea of giving the money to the boards. Remember that just because we limit the availability of the actual text, thatwe can still discuss things in this public forum so general ideas are open to everyone. This will entice more people to help as well.

Hope everyone joins the Y! group so we can get some things going more specifically.

I guess it depends on how we want to "give back to the community."

Personally I'd rather see open development and a free final product. I think in the long run that's more interesting than keeping the development closed and letting Morrus try to sell it through Nat20.

Just my .02.

That's a great idea. Elite troops, a Warrior Caste among the already militaristic Dwarven cociety, where acts of suicidal bravery against any enemy of the city, any time and any place - these are the mark of a man among thise caste, rather than the mere stoic defense of the community so typical of Dwarves.

Hooboy, I can see some great fiction or flavor text, very outside the achetypical dwarven demeanor :)

Guys, I am afraid I am going to have to back out.

I popped my head into the Yahoo group for a second and the talk had already turned to PrC's. Not that there's anything wrong with that-- in fact my only concern is that I am working on some related stuff myself, and I can't afford any conflict of interest.

I had hoped we'd be talking more about the workings of the city, rather than working on "crunchy bits" for dwarven characters right off the bat. A city book-- not a class book.

Still, I wish you the best of luck. Spill some goblin blood for ol' Wulf!

I haven't swung through the yahoo group since I signed up yesterday, but I think PrCs could wait until a semi-final state for the setting, at the very least. I for one would like you to be able to participate (but of course, it isn't my call to make!)

I haven't even had a chance to go check this group out, This is getting out of hand! I'll probably end up dropping out too if things continue at this rate!

Please guys

Everyone slow down,

I think that we all had a slightly different vision for what this would be, but I think that everyone would agree that the more thought that was put into the city itself and the way that it works, the better the 'crunchy bits' will be at that point.

I started the YahooGroup because I thought it would be a good place to share ideas. I did not intend for it to become an issue about where to start.

Wulf, I understand that you do not want to put yoruself in a hard position, but I think that if we refocus as a group, we will see what you wanted, a dwarven city, which the crunchy bits are then developed for.

Billy, I sincerely hope that you will not drop off of this project as your were the founding person. I, personally, wanted this to be a team effort to build a working city, before we even started working with whatever rules would be involved.
