Magen Brigward
Fighter 2

Magen smiled at Hunter's jibe at Lucious then said,"No I think here would be a bad choice, the goblins know we're here, best to move on and do our best to avoid being tracked, though I doubt we could with those wolves. Hiddel's walls will be good for the night.

With the battle rage subsiding Magen was starting to realise their victory, it was a shame that some had escaped, but his little group had certainly given the goblins a thrashing.

"Best we get going soon," he said standing and getting Edgar to readjust his armour.

Shara awakens to the sound of the others discussing where to sleep tonight. She lays and listens for a moment, blinking sleepily up at the sun. Those goblins will come here first to pick up our trail, she thinks. Anyone who's here is going to die.

When Magen speaks up firmly, she breathes a sigh of relief and stands up. She puts her pack back on and heads inside to rejoin them.

"I hear it's time to leave," she says as she enters. "I'm ready anytime."

"No need to waste your gifts on me," Lucious says as he pours water on some dirt and smears the mud on his wounds. He looks at Shara "See, all better."

I'm bummed I didn't get to respond to this IC, since I'd already said Shara was asleep, but just for the record: Lucious is a delight. :D[/sblock]

Gathering up their gear and breaking the rest the heroes head back to Hiddell's ranch. It takes just over an hour to reach the homestead arriving late in the afternoon (you figure there is 3-4 hours of light remaining that day). Hiddell and his lads are still riding herd on the cattle but the rancher wife, an older matron with grey hair tied back tight and wearing a simple but thick dress greeted you.

"My husband spoke that you would be a showing up sometimes today. I have set up cots in the lower house fer ye and have food a waiting. Iffin' you would cleans up first a'fore a wandering through my home that would be most appreciated. I will have hot water arranged for ye just past the stockade there. Leave your bloody work there iffin' ye could. No ones will bother it and I don't wants them in my house you understand..."

Magen Brigward

As the group left the abandoned homestead Magen spat and cursed, "Would that we had the time to burn their wretched corpses.". He spent most of the trip back in silence.

Hiddle's wife greeted them, "Iffin' you would cleans up first a'fore a wandering through my home"  she asked though Magen was already on his way to the well. He paused at the mention of hot water though, ” That's kind of you." he said.

Edgar helped him out of his armour and started cleaning it while Magen washed. " As soon as you're done there, get ready for your lessons, we've got some time to catch up."

Heading inside with his companions he asked of no one in particular, " More of the same tomorrow?" Looking at Hunter he added, " But without the risky scouting.  That was brave of you to do but foolish of me to ask with those wolves.  Tomorrow, we'll just approach in force and deal with them as they come. I suspect they might try and group together now though so we might have a tough fight on our hands. I still think that our best bet is to kill thier leader.

Hunter Brightwood

Hunter nodded his head in agreement with Magen, “Yeah coming face to face with that wolf, was an eye opening experience to say the least. I don’t really want to be that isolated again, but hey we made it through.”

Yawning slightly Hunter continued, “It would be helpful to take out their leader, the others would most likely be less organized and less confident. The question is how? Do we go looking for him? Do we try to draw him out?”

Shara ties her long hair up in a bun and gets cleaned up, thankful for the hot water. She glances over at Lucious and chuckles a bit, glad to see him getting the mud out of his wounds. She'd done her best to keep the horror off her face when he'd rubbed it in them earlier, but wasn't sure she'd been convincing.

As they all head inside to eat, Magen and Hunter begin talking strategy, and she takes the opportunity for a quiet word with her fellow outlander. Leaning in toward Lucious with a conspiratorial grin, she whispers, "Are you a little excited too? I've never stayed in a home in the Middle Lands! This is probably boring for the others, but you and I are still adventuring."

She laughs softly at the silliness of it, given their other adventure today, but finds it no less true.

Lucious sat on some rubble at the dilapidated homestead while his companions rested. He couldn't be sure if he was looking in the right direction, he was horrible at directions, but it didn't matter. He thought of home none the less.
As his companions began to stir he smiled. This was a good group he had managed to fall with.
He grabbed his things and they headed back to Hiddel's Ranch. At the woman's request for Lucious to clean up his head hung low and he nodded in understanding saying under his breath as he walked away, "But being covered in the blood of my enemies is what my people live for."
He drops the heads and skins by the stockade and cleans himself off. When he returns to his companions they were discussing their hopes of ending the conflict sooner rather than later. Shara leaned in and whispered to Lucious her excitement at sleeping in a Middle Lands home. He thought for a moment before saying, "I wonder what the inside looks like and what's for dinner. I'm starving!"

The heroes are brought hot water to clean themselves and their gear by the matronly woman and two young children (a boy and girly around 6 or 9 years old). When they are done they are lead into the main house where there is a large table laden with warm black bread, a hot broth, potatoes and a number of cooked chickens. The lady of the house adds "Eats up and my youngins will shows ye where ye can bed down tonight. My husband will be in around sunset with the herd." She then returns to her kitchen and leaves the heroes in peace to eat. The food is quite good and filling.

After eating their fill the two children lead them to a side house where eight cots have been set up. The room smelled freshly cleaned and appeared to be mostly usage for storage when not housing guests.

As the sun is setting the rancher and his two lads appear at the stockade with a couple of dozen cattle. Just as they are leading the animals for the wooden palisade's gate the sounds of drums begin to echo over the hills. dum, Dum, DUM... dum, Dum, DUM they beat. It sounds like a far ways off...

Lucious thanks the matron and eats his fill. He drops his stuff next to a bed and heads back out, climbing whatever structure seems sturdy enough to hold him. As he watches the sunset he hears the drums in the distance and stands up attempting to discern distance and direction. "Do they come to me and make my job easier?" he thought to himself.

After dinner, Shara heads outside and looks for a secluded spot to meditate while the sun sets. It was an odd thing to go from years of solitude to having to look for privacy, but meditation required it.

After a little while, her quiet contemplation is jarringly interrupted by the sounds of distant drumming. She opens her eyes and stands up slowly, listening.

As she gazes around, trying to identify the direction of the drums, she sees the unmistakable silhouette of Lucious against the burnt orange sky. She walks to the base of the building he's standing on, and looks out in the same direction. "They've noticed the missing band, then," she says sedately. "Guess we won't have to look for their leader."
