Nars moves forward, keeping one eye on the body and one eye on the next corner. When he gets to the corner he will peak around first and if he sees nothing down the corridor, will check out the body.

Yawning Pit

Moving closer Nrs is able to see that behind and above the body, on the wall, a relief carving of a distinguished-looking knight glares down the corridor at you. Though worn with the passage of many years, his stern gaze is arresting, and he seems to be indicating with an outthrust hand that none should pass or that this is the wrong way. An investigation of the body reveals that it is the body of a gnoll clad in hide armor and clutching a long staff of smooth, dark wood. He has a couple of belt pouches with something in them. The gnoll seems to have been dragged along the ground from the west, as the stone is dark with his dried blood in that direction. His legs are noticeably missing - they seem to have been chewed off.

As you move further down the passage to the west you notice the mangled and torn bodies of three more gnolls. These are armed with clubs and bone-toothed whips. There are also several lengths of blood-smeared broken chain scattered amongst the bodies. At the end of the ancient dug corridor a broken pit trap yawns open in the floor and the smashed remnants of a shoddy wooden bridge cling to the sides. From here, the ancient stone walls end, and freshly carved rough tunnels branch off in two directions. They are about 6 feet wide and 6 feet high. They have probably been made by a burrowing creature, not tools and maybe within the last few days. Deep claw marks are obvious on the floor and walls.

Nars swallows a lump in his throat at the carnage. He mumbles while bent about his work, "Some creature. Hmm. Looks like it, er, escaped." He raises an eyebrow at Nestiphae (or tries to, he can't do it) and says quietly, "Erhem, still want to, er, come?" He examines the relief in more detail, looking for any levers or triggers (Search +9, +2 for secret doors, +2 for unusual stonework). He also checks out the area near the pit trap for structural damage and for any more clues about the creature. He'll leave the decision whether to press on or try some more at the previous doors to Percy.

OOC: Does Nars have any idea of what the creature might be? Knowledge(Dungeoneering) +7

Percy wrinkles her nose in disgust at the scene. Her voice becomes urgent. "Nars - get back here. I don't want to go that way. We were here to find archeological items and kill gnolls. I don't think we'll find any more of either that way."

Once Nars is safely back w/in her reach, she pats him on the shoulder. "You are one brave dwarf. I want you to be careful and stay alive. What say we go back and try that first door again. The one bordering the outside wall of the crypt. That one hadn't been used for awhile. Might be some nice artifacts in there. As for what that creature was, perhaps we can go back and quiz those gnolls still alive in the entrance room. They may wake up in a bit."

OOC: OK - Percy doens't know they won't ever wake up!

Nars thinks it was a digging animal, something akin to a badger probably but bigger. He is unable however to find any levers or anything around the relief or trap.

From behind Percy, Nestiphae lets out a sqweak and hides behind the taller woman. She is trembling slightly but doesn't say anthing else.

On their way back towards the entrance Nezrak stops at the location where the old tunnel headed north from the passageway. His keen elven senses spot a thin seem opposite the open tunnel in an apparently blank wall.

"Eh, good eye there, ah, Nezrak," says Nars blushing slightly in embarrassment. It's good to have sharp friends. He checks out the outline to try to find how it opens and see if it is trapped.

OOC:[SBLOCK]Just a note that dwarves also get a free search check passing within 10 feet of unusual stonework, including secret doors. Nars's search check would be +13. It may have been another case of low rolls. I believe Ishmael would also get a free roll on account of being a Deep Halfling. Stonecutting[/SBLOCK]

[sblock=Slagmortar]I did forget that one. Will keep it in mind. It has been found already in any case. I rolled and both you and Ishmael would have also found it. [/sblock]

[sblock=OoC]I feel pretty confident in saying that we won't be missing that many secret doors :p

And I don't think any of the gnolls would be waking up anytime soon, considering that they were all knocked into the negatives with real damage instead of nonlethal, so they'd need at least eight hours of rest to regain any hitpoints.[/sblock]
