E1: Tomb of Chaos [Judge: Patlin] [Concluded]

"Why don't you stay with him, Rodimus," Percy nods ahead at Nars. "I'm nervous about this place. Anyone heard of a vulture headed god?"

Nars moves slowly down the corridor keeping his eyes open for traps and any changes in stone work. Rodimus joins him but stays a pace behind to let the dwarf spot any thing that he is looking for. The sand on the floor pads your footsteps making silent movement easy for the pair. The corridor continues for as far as either of the pair can see.

At about 30 feet from the corner, Nars and everyone hears an audible chime as a magical trap is sprung. All of a sudden a huge gust of wind throws all the sand into the air and smashes into our intrepid pair of explorers. Howling wind fills the corridor as the sand sprays all the way back to the bend. Luckily everyone else is currently standing around the corner though a gust carries sand into everyone's faces they are not as affected as the other two.

The wind continues howling and the sand continues to swirl as the two are virtually stopped in their tracks. The deafening cacophany and moving sand make it difficult for either of them to hear or see more than each other. At the moment they are not being blown back, but they are having difficulty moving forward able to move only inches at a time.

Nars and Rodimus are 30 feet from the corner, the others are just back beyond it near the secret entrance. The sand obscures vision almost completely although the two can see each other. The sound fills the entire dungeon with a howling wind.

Its tough going, but Nars and Rodimus are able to retreat. At times it feels like the wind is almost strong enough to knock them off their feet. Once back around the corner both of them can breath a sigh of relief and shake the sand from their clothing. The sandstorm continues to whip down the corridor throwing sand against the crumbly wall.

With downcast eyes, Nars says, "Sorry. I, er, missed it. I, er, think I could have, ah, spotted the, er, trigger, but it'd take moving, er, much slower and a more, ah, thorough search. Maybe it'll, er, die down? I'll, er, take more time ... from now on."

OOC: Nars could probably detect nearly all traps on a take 20, but it'd be awfully slow going.

"Oh, Nars." Percy gives him a hug. "You can't detect everything. Especially magical traps. You're doing a great job. In fact, this trap hasn't been so bad. And it makes me think we're on track to find something interesting. Have you guys seen my rod in action?"

Percy draws her immovable rod and activates it. "I think you all remember this. What if we tie a rope to this and let someone strong slowly work it down the corridor? Just push it out in front of you, push the button to activate, pull yourself forward using it as a brace, press the button to deactivate it, swing it around in front of you, and reactivate it. It will be slow, hard work, and you'll want to keep your eyes closed to keep the sand out. If there's any sand left; if it's not magical, it's probably all blown away by now. I don't know if we'll all be able to go forward, perhaps just our strongest men, Gorefoot and Rodimus. What do you think?"

At Percy's suggestion, Gorefoot shrugs. "I'll do it." He turns to Rodimus and says, "You wanna go to? We might run into something that needs killing."

Waiting a few moments for most of the sand to accumulate at the entrance to the tunnel, the group can see a small hill forming. Some sand is still drawn in and is creating a swirling of dust and grit right at the bend, but most of it has accumulated in a 3ft high hill. The wind however is still blowing strong.

Stepping into the wind, Gorefoot feels like he is about to be knocked down. It will prove quite difficult for the little halfling to make any head way into the strong wind, though with Percy's rod he and Rodimus will not be knocked down at least.

OOC: Erekose, I'm thinking that we tie rope to the rod, and leave the other end of the rope with the group. Then, we try to force our way forward, using the rod for a handhold, or when it seems like the wind is going to blow us back. I'd like to wait for Rodimus' input before we acutally head into what looks like a painful trap. :)
