D&D (2024) Early access to 2024 books in DnDBeyond is tied to subscription tier.

that is about the same discount I get by not buying it from WotC but on Amazon instead

I won’t be getting physical books from WotC either way
If I buy on Amazon, I just get the books. This way, I get both and my players get free early access.

I am not saying it is, I am disagreeing with those that try to spin it as a new benefit for subscribers.

They did not add a benefit to subscribers that those did not have before, they took a benefit away from anyone who is not subscribing

I guess I just don't see "not providing a benefit they were not ever obligated to provide nor did they state they were going to continue to provide" as taking something away. 🤷‍♂️

They only took it away from people who were not subs and who bought the most expensive physical + digital version.

How tiny is that group?
does that matter? It either is a new benefit for subscribers or it is not, and this one clearly is not

Also, that already was a step down from how they started with preorders…

Are folks not understanding that early access is now cheaper?
how is not having it at all cheaper than what we had before, where it was free with the preorder?

your players get early access because of your subscription, not because you preorder. That was always true, the only difference now is that without a subscription even you as the buyer have no early access

My brother in Selune, if they didn't think it would work, they wouldn't be doing it.

They're not doing this out of the goodness of their hearts. I think you appreciate that perfectly well. They are literally, unarguably, doing it because they think it will make them money. They think it will cause people to renew subscriptions, or to sign up at Beyond and so on.
So what?

so if you provide something you are not obligated to provide and then stop doing so eventually, you are not taking anything away? I guess I do not understand that logic. I still no longer have something I previously had.

You still have the items you got in the past, correct? Then nothing has been taken away. I don't think no longer providing something they never needed to provide is taking anything away. They never promised to continue the practice, the benefit of getting the new rules a couple weeks early is incredibly minimal considering how long the people purchasing the rules will use them.

But this is just going round and round. We just disagree.

OK. If this is evil then does the fact the FLGS get to sell the book two weeks in advance evil too?

I'd says that equivalent to the Pizza Party. It's something nice to do to appease the masses. To show that they still (lol) care about the FLGS.

It's very nice of them and I plan to take advantage of it. Be nice if I got a free gold dragon mini and dice as well but hey digital v physical, i get it.
