Eberron and the Book of Revelation

Now I'm wondering what other cool parts I could use to make my Eberron game more satanic. Magewright covens, rock and roll dwarves, the mayor of Sharn revealed:

Sir Jaques ir'Chique!

I mean, it's OBVIOUS that the 13th mark is all about Chris Rock right?

I have no problem with your observations. The only place where I have a problem is in the alarmist tone of your title. "sugar coating the lure of satan" just comes of sounding like hyberbole.

I am a christian myself. I don't have a problem with Eberron as presented. Then again, I don't have a problem with dragons in my game either.

I place limits in what I allow in a game based on my spirtual beliefs as well. For example, I won't allow evil player characters. I also wont allow vulgar language use in or out of character. Though, creating "fantasy profanity" is fine.

There are games that I don't play because of my personal beliefs.

Though, if you feel dragons are evil, magic is evil, is Dungeons and Dragons the right game for you?

So what does that mean for us? Its for each one of us to decide. I know now that I’ll never play a dragonmarked character, or run an Eberron campaign where the three progenitors are anything other than cast down beasts who are evil to the core. I’m a Christian, and creating and playing heroic characters who draw power from the dragon in the earth while brandishing their marks named after the beast is a place I’m just not going to go. I don’t see any good coming out of that.

Just curious about some of the corollaries to this.
Does that mean the warforged are inherently evil or less than men/elves/dwarves, since they were created with magic by mortals?
(Evil or at least non-believing mortals, in a "post-rapture" world, as well.)
And what does that make the kalashtar? A vehicle for salvation?
I also need to ask a question that may reveal my ignorance of Eberron...in a fit of insanity, I decided I wasn't buying Eberron until I had the Iron Kingdoms books.
But I understand from some Dragon articles that Dragonmarks feats, right? So they're no more mandatory to characters than any other feat?
If so, I believe this is at variance with some of your source material.

Right, you don't get the Dragonmark unless you take the feat. For setting info though, it's not a choice of the person, it's random. The "choice" is purely because it's a game. Like if you consider paladin's to be chosen warriors, the character doesnt have a choice, but the player makes the choice to play one. :)

To the original poster:
You can draw parallels to many different things. If in your mind seeing dragons as less than evil beings means that you somehow grow to accept that Satan isn't evil, that's your opinion. Theology doesn't need to be intertwined with every image in modern society though. The 3 dragons in Eberron are as much about the seperation of Order from Chaos as anything. Also, the dragon from the water and the dragon from the earth are both Underworld in your reckoning, which is actually different than the Eberron dragons. You're stretching it, based on "dragon" imagery. IMO ofc.

The idea of world serpents predates the creation of christianity. Off the top of my head I can think of the Midgaard Serpent from Norse mythology. Serpents are a universal symbol of wisdom, enlightenment and fertility as you look across all of the different cultures around the world.

And things coming in 3's are also very common with archetypes such as Maiden/Crone/Mother, Father/Son/Holy-Ghost, Brahmin/Shiva/Vishnu, or Our-Side/Their-Side/Everything-In-Between.

Now to kill this thread...
HAIL SATAN!!!!

This thread was dead before it started, that's why I didn't respond the first time. :)

The proper phrase is IBTL, I Beat The Lock, though I think this will probably disappear rahter than be locked.

I changed the title.

Straight out of the box, so to speak? No, it isn't. But I do like a lot of the fantasy elements and enjoy roleplaying (though I actually only play about 3-4 times per year) so I modify it accordingly.

Well, that clinches it for me. As a Christian (at least someone trying to be) AND someone who had virtually no interest in setting before...that's 40 bux that'll be spent better at GenCon.

Kai Lord:

I don't mean this in a disrespectful way (I really am curious), but is it possible for a "good Christian" to play D&D out of the box, with good dragons and magic and gods who aren't manifestations of the Beast? Isn't it all kinda ungodly (from the fundie perspective)? It seems to me that, while you hate on Jack Chick in one breath, that's sort of his point.
