Eberron = power creep or just pushing the envelope?

Wow, just imagine a warforged mystic theurge...

I hope my point is not lost.
Is your point that a Warforged Mystic Theurge wouldn't be that great because of the Warforged's innate arcane spell failure?

On a serious note, I want to see a Warforged Druid that wild shapes into a squirrel... (Possibly a metal squirrel. I haven't quite worked that out yet.)

Heh I'd settle for the freaky looking black squirrels I saw going to college in Syracuse NY... I had people telling me they didn't exist... until I got photographic evidence.

Does the Dragon article go into how easy it would be to remove the precious adamantine coating from the critter? Because a low level party could easily get a decent "inheritance" if their buddy... died... due to... uneforeseen circumstances. :]

I disagree with this thread.

The race is more powerful than the standard PHB races... is that the point? Whoa keen insight there Sherlock.

As the person who brought up dark sun pointed out... as long as all the races in the setting are equal TO EACH OTHER then there is no balance problem and no power creep.

Power creep affects games, not settings.

Let me repeat.

Unless you mix and match Eberron into FR or Greyhawk all the races could start with +6 to all ability scores and it is NOT power creep.

It may be good... it may suck. I would at least wait until I had seen the whole thing before I decided it sucked.

The -2 Wis, -2 Cha wouldn't help a lot either.

But in general terms I think that the warforged get only a half result from any healing spells helps a lot to balance this race.

Vigilance nailed it on the head. I was trying to compare the pre-release complaints about the MT with the current worries about the warforged. Until you've seen the whole package, you can't really compare it to what you know now.

Something I haven't seen mentioned yet (but I could have missed it) is the fact that cure spells only heal half of what they normally would when applied to a Warforged.

Note that our friend the warforged has another vunerability: a metal chasis. This makes him vunerable to Heat Metal, Chill Metal, Rusting Grasp, Rust Monsters (ewww), Maginetism, and other metalitc traps a DM can thow at them...

As a side note: People have been complaining of the "my character lives/dies by his equiptment" syndrome, but introduce a race that doesn't need lots of magical gear to be a great fighter...
