I'd like to see a similar poll in about 18 months which asks the (currently) 27 people who say it will be their next setting if it actually came to fruition for them.

I actually plan to poke this poll at people every once in a while. Probably once the book is out and then again in december or so.

Thanks! I've always wondered if people ever did that. I sometimes dig back into old polls to see if I posted anything and if my perception has changed.

I agree. one of the reasons I stayed away from 2E was because I'd look at some the settings material and say to myself, "What the #%$* is this? This ain't D&D!" I freely admit to the fact of having a pretty narrow viewpoint, but hey, I like the basics, what can I say? I'm happy with the game I play, and if others are happy with what I perceive as "wonky", more power to them.

Sounds like my homebrew.... :)

The poll needs some help.

1. Where does the poll creator get off equating ignorance or indifference with Switzaerland's neutrality?

2. The options do not cover a truly neutral view. To say I'm not sure, I either have to plead ignorance or indifference.

3. There is a great deal of information in Eberron that has already been released that will allow me to incorporate its elements without having to buy it, but without having to knock it either.

Taking a look at your favored settings above I can see your point there. It is all a matter of taste.
I never heard of Sanctuary before though. If it is in the same list as Lankhmar and City-State I'll have to hunt some info down on it.

Sanctuary is the city that the Thieve's World anthologies and novels are set in. There was a very good, multi-system boxed set setting for it, along with an expansion and a handful of modules. The conflict in the stories tend to center around strife between people, with magic and the supernatural tossed in, but not center stage. So that type of fantasy is more about people, rather than uber-powerful magics and bug-eyed abominations.

Dawnforge is my setting of choice for the moment, quite vanilla on the surface, but lot of varition underneath its like Exalted on the scope of the characters becoming uber, though not as uber as Exalted, but Legendary in feel, and the chracters have a real chance to just be uber... bleh... I think Ebberon will be cool, but I am not sure yet :)

No interest at all in Eberron. Our group is doing fine with FR and I don't see any of our campaigns ending for at least two years.

I don't see Eberron being that different from Core D&D.
Well, technically you're correct, because it kitchen sinks the entirety of core D&D in there.

What is Eberron's theme? We still don't know, and it can't fall back on the old "pseudo-medieval sword & sorcery fantasy setting" theme default that Greyhawk and FR fall into, because it's got all this other stuff like magitech and contemporary pulp which doesn't really fit in that default. Until the theme or target it's aiming at becomes clear, it's wonkier than these so-called "wonky variations" that have a clear theme to them, and don't try to include everything....IMO.

What's wonky about a campiagn with no theme? What kind of theme does the PHB have?

That said, it looks intriguing......I may be tempted to play in the world instead of just bastardizing it, if it shapes up as well as it seems like it is. However, some things concern me.......dragonmarks, action points....I'll have to rule out their ability to empower things before I actually shell out for it.
