ECL for half-iron golem

wallshot

First Post
i was wondering if my math was correct. Using Soldarin's ECL calculator, i factored the half-iron golem out to and ECL of 5. here is my breakdown

stats-
str.....+12
dex.....-2
con.....+4
total=14*.1=1.4

int.....-6
wis.....+0
cha.....-6
total=-12*.05=-.6

Natural AC=+11*.2=2.2

DR 25/+2=+1 (is it +1 for each part? cause 25 would be +1 and /+2 would be +1)

+2 Fort Save=+.2

Darkvision=+.2

breath weapon= +1(dc increase with level)

Iron Golem Magic Immunities=+1 (this should proly be higher, since iron golems are immune to a lot...)

Rust Vulnerability=-1 (while this is a very major weakness, the general party doesnt usually carry a rust monster in its portable hole...and yes i know about the summon monster-polymorph trick)

unablility to heal= -1 (this could be higher, but he can be healed...im guessing it would be a craft check?)

and now the final tally=1.4+2.2+1+1+1+0.2+0.2-1-1-0.6 = 4.4 or ecl +4 total.

so is this right? should the DR count for more? should the magic Immunities be a bigger adjustment? is the summon monster-polymorph to rustmonster trick really that deadly?

in general...is +4 for a half-iron golem right?

thnks for yor input
oh yeah, this is where its at for those who dont have it

I'd say another point higher for the immunities. Is this for a PC or an NPC?

its for a PC...scary as that might seem...

basically there are about 25 people getting together on a sunday in january to battle it out for in 5 groups of 4 to determine the new pantheon of a newly created world. the story goes that each party of four has to travers a super tough dungeon, and those that make it out find themselves face to face with the remains of the other 4 parties, where they will duke it out until 4 are standing.

so basically, the PC's need the most munchkined, MIN/MAXed, Rules exploiting, power-triping characters known to ever exist...

since they only get 10 levels to work with, ECL is very important.

thanks for yor imput

You have to take into account that the Half-Golem CANNOT heal itself or be healed by the normal means...and that if the Half-Iron Golem is to be hit by a rust attack...he's instantly dead!

Well a half dragon is 4ecl and this i believe is better so higher ecl would make sense.

I would change the DR to a solid bonus 10/- (because of the hardness of iron)

and I think magical immunities would be +2 ecl, but I am not going to look them up to make sure

and I have no idea what the breat weapon does so can't judge that either.

You could heal him by magical means with the wizards repair object line of spells, depending on your dm of course

I would rank the ECL much, much higher. The damage resistance and magical immunities are vastly impressive for a PC because they come into play lots and lots.

Ask yourself this - if a 1st level half-iron golem was to fight against a 6th level character - a fighter say - who do you think would win? Especially considering that a 6th level fighter can't afford a +2 weapon IIRC...

At what level would someone be able to routinely afford a +2 weapon? I'd imagine that would set a crucial balance point.
