Eden Studios Adds Drive-Thru Window

Boycott phase? What are you talking about? I couldn't get Fields of Blood at my current distributor and haven't spend the time to look overseas yet. I bought FoB at DTRPG for $15 and it's money well spend! I don't like the DRM one bit, but that's not exactly stopping me now is it, just creating a bit more work to get it into a usable format...

Now if your looking for a bit more money, post more Eden D20 material on DTRPG, especially Liber Bestarius (i would also buy the two as of yet unposted adventures if the current price scheme is in effect). Prerequisite is that it's in the same quality pdf as FoB. So go forth and make more money at little extra effort ;-)

ps. how about The War of Shadows in pdf format?

Thanks for your support.

Fields of Blood sold out very quick and then we reprinted and the reprint is almost sold out as well. So hardcopies are limited.

I just havent had a chance yet to finish the PDFs of the other Eden Odyssey stuff by the time the site went live (i had a few problems with the PDFing from the original files since I just upgraded all my software and got a new computer so some of my old files/backups are acting wacky).

Hopefully by next week.

I want to hear feedback and sometimes I have to stir the pot to do so. Anyways - now we are at the boycott phase. Ive accepted that. Not much I can do about that now.

For the record from my end it's not so much a boycott as it is just deciding to pass on relevant products. There are not hard feelings involved and I certainly have no desire for Eden (or any of the other companies) to go under. I just made a decision for my own peace of mind, the decision's made by anyone else is up to them & not my concern.

I'm not going to be going from board to board trying instigate others to do as I have decided to do or start a crusade against anyone involved.

Eden has made a business decision and I respect that, I just ask for the same in return.

...and finally, you're not going to see me staging a sit-in on your front lawn with a "Down With DTRPG!!" placard and chanting "Hey Hey. Ho Ho. DRM has got to go!! Hey Hey, Ho Ho!". ;)

George, FWIW, I'm not boycotting Eden Studios, or any other publisher; heck, not even DriveThruRPG. I'm simply not interested in buying the DRM products, because they don't meet my needs (both practical & philisophical). I am interested in buying PDFs -- including Eden PDFs (Armageddon, I'm looking at you!) -- but not on DRM's terms.

As someone else sort-of said, I want to buy a copy of the books, not get a license to lease some books for a while.

I think what George is saying about boycott phase is the vitriol I've seen on all sorts of boards and this thread in particular . . .

To boycott DriveThruRPG.com because of DRM is one thing (and reasonable if you don't like DRM) . . .

But then to froth and rave that you will boycott ALL of Eden's products (or other companies involved with the site), their PRINT products included, well, that just *ahem* stupid in my opinion.

Eden isn't taking anything away from any of us here by offering DRM PDFs thru DriveThru, to my knowledge there weren't Eden PDFs at all before this. So if you don't like DRM you are in the same boat you were in weeks ago if you want a PDF of an Eden product, it's not available to you. (course, that's different with Malhavoc . . .)

Oh, by the way George . . .

I haven't bought an Eden product yet, but I probably WILL now that they are easily available in PDF form on DriveThru. I certainly am no "DRM-hater" (my needs are simple and DRM doesn't cause me personally any hassle). I think I'm probably one of the few here (or at least, one of the few here posting) that IS in your target market for this service.

If you are thinking about Eden products and have the slightest interest in Buffy/Angel I can't recomend those books enough. These are top quality books and once I got a game going even my non Buffy friends are having fun with it. The system is simple and easy to learn, it works fast but allows for complexity if theat is what you want. Its great for Role Playing or Hack and Slash, and it can do that at the same time. Its this game that has currently pulled me away from d20, and that is not an easy feat to accomplish.

mmmmmm . . . Buffy . . .

I'm not sure it would be safe for me to purchase any roleplaying products based on that show . . . I'm too much in love with some of those characters . . . ;)

Awww, what the heck! I can brave the waters of non-D20 for Willow!

The thing is here many people have a moral objection to the use of DRM. Just like any other moral objection these people have a right to protest it. They aren't beating up employees, but they can in good conscience only refuse to buy any products from a company they see as unethical. There may be many bigger and better things to protest, but this one is very personal. This is especially true because of all the things George of Eden Studios posted as reasons...
a. cant find our stuff thru normal distribution
b. a way for out of print product to still get to the fans.
c. to offer "cheaper" versions of our print products to fans who dont want to spend full retail
d. to make us some extra money
None of these require the DRM. A NORMAL pdf could have accomplished the task just as well without offending anyone. The DRM was just thrown on for no good reason. People online have already begun the cracking and I'm sure the P2P networks will already have some of the DTRPG content up. All DRM is doing is offending and annoying some, being tolerated or ignored by others, and being destroyed by the rest.

For people who don't like DRM, as far as I know all the companies selling at DTRPG also offer their print versions. And previously, except for Malhavoc, they weren't offering PDFs at all (and Malhavoc is still offering print versions).

RPGNow still exists and sells loads of quality products as they have been doing for years, with no DRM there.

In general, the anger directed at a company (DTRPG) which has for the most part extended availability of RPG products stuns me.

George, Fields of Blood is a product I'd really like to pick up. I'll just drive by...

Dire Bare,

How old are you, out of curiosity? I'm originally from Pocatello and am curious if you might be someone I know.
