Eek! Help me lower spell failure!

Question #2 for the day. Just made my first cleric character. Little dwarven holy tank in full plate mail. Problem is... 35% spell failure. It's even higher with his shield.

What feats / magical abilities / material properties are out there that might be able to help me lower that a bit? I'm starting at level 5, so I have a little bit of gold to play with (9,000 starting gold, as per DMG). If that isn't enough $$ to help, then at least what can I be working towards?

Need to learn to not ask questions when I don't have my books in front of me.

Then again... stuck at work for 9 hours. Getting the correct answer to D&D questions NOW is MUCH more important!

Per SRD -- Arcane Spell Failure: Armor interferes with the gestures that are needed to make to cast an arcane spell.

Well, those two guys explained that as a Cleric you don't have to worry about this, but if you had asked about a Fighter/Wizard cross or something:

> Materials: Mithril lowers Arcane Failure.
> Feats: from the Netbook of Feats, "Armored Caster" lowers Arcane Failure by 10%. Nothing in official products AFAIK.
> Enchantments: nothing I know of, but I made a homebrew enchantment, "Mobility", that for a +1 price adds 1 to Max DEX, lowers Armor Check penalty by 1, lowers item weight by 10%, and reduces Arcane Failure by 5%. You can put it on multiple times, too.

Hey, certain people on this board are better for rules than the PHB sometimes, especially for silly questions that are hard to look up. I know I've missed an extremely obvious rule many many times. ;)

If you want official WoTC solutions, the Arms and Equipment Guide introduced several special materials for constructing armor that reduce Arcane Spell Failure.

I think in Monte Cook's Book of Eldrigh Might (maybe BOEM II?) there is an armor enchantment that a reduces spell failure and one that eliminates it totally. +2 and +4 enchantment (I think)

There is a PrC Called spell sword (Tome and Blood) in which as you increase in levels you gain a decrease in spell failure %. I think at 10th level spell sword you gain a 25 or 35% reduction to spell failure. so you could cast in Mithril full plate and a Mithril shield with little or no spell failure.

Difier you are correct, it was Book of Eldritch Might II

There is also one that for a +1 ability gives the armor no maximum dex score (use that high dex with Full Plate)

Also, for a +1 you can lower the Armor Check Penalty by 2, and for +2 you can make it 0.

Book of Eldritch Might II is a good buy and has some nifty things in it, consider picking it up. :)

(although, this post had nothing to do with the original question which has already been answered.. hehe)
