Eidrog's Interesting ISRP Statistics

Over the last week I did a lot of reading though character descriptions in the ISRP chat rooms. In fact, I read just over 100 descriptions, this is what I found:

Male Characters: 52%
Female Character: 46%
Neuter Characters: 2%

46% of female characters go into great detail about how beautiful they are.
43% of those beautiful characters also go on to describe their cleavage.
(Overall, 20% of female character descriptions describe the character's cleavage.)

Note: Stating that a character had a "curvy body" did not count as describing cleavage. Only talking abut the character's "curves" did.

8% of male characters go into great detail about how beautiful/handsome they are.
8% of male characters are built like the HULK.
1 male character made a remark about his impressive "unit."
(Overall, 1% of male character descriptions describe the character's "unit.")

Note: Races that are naturally strong such as Minotaurs did not get included in the "Hulk" category. . . Athletic characters also did not get included. Only characters with ridiculously huge muscles were included.

7% of descriptions use the word "shadowy" to describe the character.

52% of descriptions have unrelated material in them.

Note: Unrelated material includes: character history, character goals, directly stating D&D character classes, describing secret spells/curses cast on a character, identifying the creator of an item, stating that an item has sentimental value, stating an item's name, describing specific information about an item's special power, anything else that you wouldn't know just by simply looking at a character. I allowed characters to state if they were family to another character due to the fact that both characters might look similar enough for people to recognize they are from the same family.

16% of descriptions are larger than the chat window. (on a screen resolution of 1024 x 768)
75% of those large descriptions contain unrelated material.

13% of Characters are templated.
23% of Those templated characters have more then one template.

Templates in order of popularity:
  1. Vampire - 62%
  2. Half-Dragon - 23%
  3. Were-Tiger - 15%
  4. Lich - 8%
  5. Other Undead - 7%
Added Statistics:
25% of Vampires are Drow, the rest is an equal mix of Humans and other Elves (37.5% each)

~ Races in the ISRP ~

          Construct: 2%
          1. Metal - 1%
          2. Flesh - 1%
Dwarf: 1%
            Gnoll: 1%
            Minotaur: 1%
            Centaur: 1%
            Doppelganger: 1%
            Sirine: 1%
            Cat Person: 1%

            * Regular Elf, also known as a Moon Elf in the Forgotten Realms.
† Undistinguished characters are characters that do not have a race in their description, nor any clues as to what race they may be. (ie: pointy ears) Many of them are probably human, but a few had features that would suggest otherwise.
‡ Cat Person, such as a type of beastman. Not to be confused with a were-tiger. (which is a template)

All statistics should be roughly accurate. This survey included over 100 people, and was done during random points of the day ranging from very early, to very late.

I hope you found this interesting. Comments are definitely welcome. I'm very interested to see what you all have to say.

            Thanks! :)

Rofl, this is sodding sad!
Nice job, though. Did you include chars from the MotP?

Some of my chars wouldn't fit inot any of the categories...
No one has a gnome? I have two! {Aklaide Shaktah and one without a name}
No one has a wild elf? {seasutuil Oiovoronda}
My chars don't have templates, but theyr familiars do: one is pseudonatural and the other is axiomatic. No one else used these templates?
If 3% play demons {a sucubus is still a demon}, how come noone had a devil char?
How about halflings? I myself am particularily giftless in playing this race, but how come no-one at all plaies a halfling?
Also, 1% is way too low for dwarves. I should start a foundation for dwarves, or something...

Add an allignment satistic, it should be interresting.

Statistics are just for the role-playing chat, not for Map of the Planes. :)

Doing alignment would be interesting, but there's no quick, and easy way to determine it. . . Hee hee, unless we held a poll. . . But even then, a lot of the people on the chat site never show up on the boards.

Some of the stats are sad, yes. . . I too was disappointed with the lack of Dwarves in a tavern! But I was pleasantly surprised to see that humans are in fact the most popular race. (Well, if you break down the separate Elven races, and add a few humans from the undistinguished stat.)

But then, I've got a lot of thoughts and feeling towards a lot of these statistics. . . It's worth noting that although "pseudonatural" and "axiomatic" are not on my list - that does not necessarily there are no pseudonatural or axiomatic creatures in the ISRP. . . I just means I didn't see any while I was doing this survey. :) (And thus, it probably means those two templates are not very popular)

There are a few statistics I wish I had have included, such as a "tattoo" statistic and a "narrative description" statistic, but maybe that'll be something for another time! :)

This survey was apparently done for a random sample of characters (i.e., whoever happened to be on and whatever character they happened to be playing at the time.) I'm sure there are numerous exceptions, but on the whole it appears to be an accurate assessment of the prevailing trends, be they good, bad, or indifferent.

LOL

Wow, and I don't doubt any of those statistics. Well, cat person seems a bit low, but I guess that trend has died down lately.

All in all, excellant job Eidrog. This is one of the most entertaining threads I've read in awhile. :)

Btw, If I PM you with specificquestions about the statistics, would you answer them?

EDIT: Logged in as the wrong name. Oh well, this is Nugan for those of you that don't know.

lol

You know what, I'm jes glad to be a part of that small percentage that left out of the part of my cleavage....thank the god's for comfy cozy tunics. hehe

Nicely done Eidrog, I'm sure this was no small effort to put together.

It's interesting to see how the demographics pan out in a segment study like this, and this is definately that. Well done. :)
