Elans: Too Good?

As I had said in the Elan thread, which was here right after the XPH came out, I don't think they are so unbalanced. They are a very good race for psionic characters, but if you look at the opportunity costs of their abilities, they seem fine to me.

You'll sometimes make good use of their powerful abilities, which will allow you to be much more effective than any other race at that moment, but most of the time you do not have those +2 to a stat, the bonus feat, or other benefits the other races have all the time.

So, if you look at it as a whole, that balances out more or less.

I agree with Ridley's Cohort that a Psion or other manifester is probably going to want to be doing other stuff with their swift actions.

On the other hand, an elan fighter could drop his regular feats into some psi feats, expanding his pool and getting Psionic Weapon or Viscious Weapon for an opening attack (he won't really be able to recover focus in combat) while still spending his bonus feats on general badarsedness. Nothing to write home about in terms of power, but he could be pretty cool thematically.

Really? I thought they were simply linked to a psionic entity of some sort. Besides, aberrations tend to look visibly odd.

Good point. I think they should dissolve into tentacles for a few seconds every time they use their negate dmg or boost saves ability.

elans can't procreate. Their Immortality prevents it.
