Electronic Voice Phenomena: Terrifying.

I recently saw the preview for the film, White Noise. The movie revolves around something called Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP)... the theory that the dead can communicate with the living through the static on the radio, phone, or television... it also applies to phenomena in photographs (ie, orbs).

The AAEVP website has some interesting information, as well as some examples of EVP in recordings and photographs.

I don't know a lot about it, but what I do know is incredibly creepy. As such, I've been throwing around the idea of including aspects of EVP into a modern adventure.

So, here's my question: have any of you ever had any experiences with EVP? Anyone you know ever have an experience with EVP? What was it like? What'd they say? Tell me anything you know about the subject...

It toally freaks me out... but, at the same time, I long to know more!

No expoerience with this.

But from a gaming aspect this is really cool especially if you can get props like pictures and voice recording that have this aspect in them.

Indeed!

A member of my group was talking about running a modern adventure that softly played static in the background the entire time like, from a walkie-talkie... it would be even better if, every now and then, you could hear whipsers from BEYOND THE GRAVE within that static.

I may be wrong about this, but after visiting the site, I think we have another "Blair Witch Project" on our hands here -- this may be a website manufactured to sell a movie by back-dating a "phenomenon" that never existed before.

OTOH, I am quite happy to be proven wrong, just because it is such a fun idea to play around with in a modern horror game :D

I've seen other shows about the phenom... so, I know it exists as a theory *outside* of the film... I've seen books on it at Borders, as well...

Hoping that someone out here has had any experience with it in it's voice form or in photographic form...

According to the static on my modem, the dead wish this to be discussed in the OT forum. :)
I'd tend to disagree because I'm using it for inspiration for a modern game... but-- you're the boss Piratecat and, as such, I say a'ight! :D

I've never actually heard of this before. It's a cool plot hook. I can see spirits swarming in the ethereal, trying to speak into the wires....

Hmm. What if the electricity that travels through wires is one of the things that pierces into the ethereal? That's how ghosts can speak through them. And then one of them learns how to enter the wire itself, and possess whatever it's attached to.
