Electronic Voice Phenomena: Terrifying.

At one time I heard where some group was going to try and pull sound from pottery and brick, the theory was that sound is imprinted onto items during creation. Never heard any more about it but this make me wonder...

I have no idea how it's actually supposed to *work*... it's got me really freaked out though... I can't even tune my radio stations without getting all creeped out.

Gotta love it!

I may be wrong about this, but after visiting the site, I think we have another "Blair Witch Project" on our hands here -- this may be a website manufactured to sell a movie by back-dating a "phenomenon" that never existed before.

The url was registered in June of 2001. If it's a fake, it's been around for a while.

I don't remember exactly which, but one of Poe's short stories deals with a similar phenomenon, that you can "speak with the dead" using magnetism... Pretty good story, IMO, because it's basically a false account.

(and it's "sleuthing", IIRC)

When I was big into BBS's in the early to mid 90s, I kept looking for messages from god in the line noise static that would sometimes show up in my modem software.

Alas, nothing.

Claims like this are hardly new. People have been claiming to hear and see evidence of the dead in just about every recording media or transmission method known to man. Photographs of various parts of the EM spectrum, audiotape, radio, you name it.

The problem with them is very, very simple - all of these things are incredibly easy to fake. Coming up wiht a faked image or recording that seems like a real-world, normal event that passes professional inspection takes at least some small amount of skill and attention to detail. Coming up with an image or soundbite that seems vague, fuzzy or nebulous is child's play, making it a very poor piece of evidence.

Cool, I was wrong

Like I said, this sounds like a great plothook for a modern horror game (hmmm, suddenly I want to have Merrily Watkins dealing with her husband through the telly or radio...)

Thanks for the info, folks! :)

The was a show concerning the paranormal/supernatural called 'Sightings' that was on TV some 5-7 years ago. They had a episode on EVP, if I recall correctly. The show is no longer on but possibly could be seen somewhere in syndication.

A more recent show on the paranormal/supernatural is called 'Unexplained Mysteries'. While it is not as good as 'Sightings', IMO..... I think they had a short blurb on EVP has part of a Communications with the Dead episode, if my recollection is correct.
