Actually I'd prefer that a cloak of elvenkind work the way I and those I play with have enjoyed for 20 years.

My advice would be to go back to playing D&D instead of D20. ;)

My advice would be to just change the items for your campaign.

Or, introduce Greater Boots and Cloaks of Elvenkind that do what the old versions did.

I for one am very very glad they got cut down to size as I was about ready to house rule them into non-existance.

Man, +10 was insane. And the best spot item in the standard rules was +5., and you had to wear geeky spectacles to get it?

God 3.0 was a rogue's paradise. +10 on their two main skills, talk your DM into +10 on theives tools, and you are set for life. DC30 trap? ho hum.

Sneak up on a Dragon? Still hard, but nothing else was. It is just insane when a low-level rogue could run YES RUN directly in front of guards with a reasonable roll and not be seen.

Thank you 3.5!

I think it's OK. +10 items can still be made (or the +5 items be improved), for a higher price.

But the old +10 were almost a no-brainer for rogues and that isn't a good thing.

If the price was too cheap, they should have raised it. Elf cloaks as "near invisibility" devices have been great staples of D&D for over 20 years. If every cool magic item had to be "2nd character level compliant" we'd have lots of lame treasure.

The problem is that some people would suddenly have had way too much treasure. Whenever possible they tried to tweek the effect of the item rather than the cost so that players didn't need to re-equip their characters.

Greater Cloak of Elvenkind: +10 to hide. 10,000gp.

There. Done. happy?
Am I happy that a Cloak of Elvenkind that gives the same effect the item has given for over 20 years is no longer core? No. I'm not.

I think the change from 2nd edition to third was a much bigger change then from 3rd to 3.5 I understand your not being happy over the change, but the change was a few years ago.
