[ELH] Modified Paragon Template

Keth Ogreslayer

First Post
I have a player in an upcoming 12th level campaign (basically standard rules, planning to go epic) who wants to play a character that is a super-commoner basically. He wants to have an ECL 11 paragon template. I'm probably going to say no, but I want to see if the great minds on these boards can create anything suitable. Thanks in advance.

A what now?

Just create a new race of human and give him extra hit dice. A one hitdie creature will get RAPED in a 12 level game. One cloudkill and he's gone, no save.

What you're looking for is an 11th level Hero (or 1st level commoner/11th level Hero . . . however you want to play it so that he actually gets skills).

It'd be perfect for this kind of thing. Check out Natural 20's Four Colors To Fantasy (4CTF) .pdf. I think it's only six bucks.

Hey, "keth"!
Good idea to post on the boards. I did the same, not realizing you had done so. Hope there are some good replies here.

Anyone have an idea on the ECL of the current template as a base to start with?

The current Paragon template (from the ELH) gives the creature it is applied to, as I recall:

+15 to all ability scores
+20 to damage (luck bonus)
+10 competence bonus to all saves (and/or skill checks?)
+12 insight bonus to AC
+12 luck bonus to AC
+13 insight bonus to the DC of most spell-like abilities (this may arguably include spell DCs)
Triple speed
SR 10+the creature's CR (I assume this is the CR after the Paragon Template has bee included)
Fast Healing: 20
Damage Reduction 20/+6

Yes, it's beefy. Suggested CR bonus (not the same thing as an ECL bonus -- the ECL bonus is probably higher) is +18 for creatures with less than 6HD, +15 for creatures with 6-15HD (?), and +12 for creatures with more than 15HD.

Not sure how you would modify this downwards for PC usage. I *am* sure that you really, really want to take a look at that Hero class in 4CTF. Creating a "super-commoner" that should be well-balanced with other character classes of a given level is part of what the Hero class is all about. (For example, take a look at the Halfling Titan -- the Fighter1/Hero9 halfing -- presented in the book.)

Thanks for all the replies. In case you haven't guessed, billiarmus is the player. I've suggested the Heroes book (the one from Natural 20), and I'll probably go with that, but I'm not at home, so I don't really have access to it. Also, he doesn't plan to start with any more money than a farmer would have, so I have no idea what to do with the character. Any more comments are welcome.

You know, with a Strength, Dex, Con, Int, Wis, and Cha a full 15 points higher than any other commoner, you'd think he'd be one badass farmer rakin' in the cash. I suppose he could have just recently had his farm razed to the ground and all of his worldy possessions stolen from him, but by what? A pack of Balors? A squad of Paragon Goblins? Besides, you'd think with an Intelligence that high that he would have been smart enough to hide some money elsewhere. :D ;)

Remember that the Heroes book has suggested Hero-Point value for substituting starting gold. If he's starting out a pauper, just throw a few more Hero Points his way.
