[ELH] Sorcerers and Multispell

First Post
So the Sage ruled that Sorcerers can't use Quicken Spell w/o preparing the spell first via the Arcane Preparation feat. Go that.

The ELH says that Sorcerers can take Multispell by "wasting" a feat on Quicken Spell. Huh?

So Sorcerers can't use Quicken Spell, but can use Multispell? Am I missing something?

Sorcs can always take Quicken Spell as a feat, it's just that it's normally useless to them. Applying a metamagic feat to a spell makes casting it into a full-round action, if the spell normally takes one action to cast. This trumps the Quicken Spell benefit. If a sorc takes Arcane Prep, however, they can prepare the spell ahead of time, and the full-round thing would no longer apply.

Sorcerer's can benefit from Quicken Spell. Using it means their spell takes a FRA but won't provokoe an AoO. As mentioned, they can also use it better with Arcane Preparation. It also serves as a prerequisite for Innate Spell and Multispell,

Those are all good reasons.

gfunk: According to the Sage, sorcs can take the Quicken Spell feat; it's just useless to them. However, if a sorc were to take the Automatic Quicken Spell feat (or have the Instant Metamagic incanatrix ability), then Multispell would be useful, since the sorc could then quicken spells at no casting time cost.

Thanks for the input guys, please let me know if I've got this right:

Multispell is only useful for Sorcerers if:

(a) They have the Arcane Preparation Feat

*or*

(b) They have the Automatic Quicken Spell Feat

Right?
