Empathic Transfer - Multiple Targets

Gryff

First Post
I am probably being dim here, but I have a question to do with the 'Empathic Transfer, Hostile' power in the XPH.

If you augument it to affect all targets within 20 feet how is the damage dealt?
I think that the damage is shared among all targets, but that seems to reduce the power rather than augument it though avoiding the touch attack requirement is a nice bonus. Then I would assume each target makes the save and the healing to the manifester would equal the amount of damage done.

Does this seem correct?

Mmm... it seems to me that you pick a number, and that's a/ the amount of damage you heal, and b/ the amount each creature takes...

Each creature? That sounds very powerful.

A 20ft radius burst that affects every one (friends and enemies admittedly) for potentially lots of damage, save for half, plus you get healed.

Which brings up another point, in this case the amount of damage dealt is going to give you full healing assuming there are at least two targets even if they both make their saves.

Admittedly this requires 11 PP's so needs a powerful psion.

I guess it would be even more powerful if you affect 10 creatures in the area and get 10 times the damage healed that each of them takes...

Yeah, I was just looking at that last night.

It really needed an extra sentence or two on the radius option explaining how it works.

As written, it seems to indicate that you use the power to affect each person individually, so you'd choose x damage to transfer, then go around the circle: target 1, save? no? take x damage, I heal x damage. Target 2, save? yes? take x/2 damage, I heal x/2 damage... etc.

Massively powerful, even if it's just heal x, deal x to everyone near me.

With this interpretation, though, as soon as you are fully healed, nobody else can take damage...

I am inclined to think that it is intended to work in the following way:

1- As you manifest it you select any amount of damage that you have up to the max of the power: 50 or even 90 if augmented both ways.

2- As you have augmented it to be a spread, every creature has the selected damage dealt to it, with a save for half damage.

3- You heal any damage dealt to the subjects of the power. Of course, this will likely mean that you are fully healed, as you can't gain any excess hit points.

Yes, hostile empathic transfer is a really tough power. Perhaps too powerful as it is.

I don't know about that.... it says you can't heal to above your max, but not that it can't still deal the damage. Although I understand exactly what you mean....

Probably they meant it to be that everyone else takes x damage, save for half. You heal the most amount of damage done to any one person affected.

But the implication of that is that even with the single person mode, you can choose to deal 50 damage regardless of whether or not you're even injured...

Hey, here's a question - what happens when Hostile Empathic Transfer ("no regeneration can change the damage dealt") meets the Tarrasque ("Regeneration: no form of attack deals lethal damage to the tarrasque")?
