Empowering the traditional buffs

I wonder if Berks confusion comes from the example of empowering a maximised fireball, where we are told that it does 60 + 5d6 damage? I could see someone interpreting that as a more general add on +50% of the dice (even though this is handling the specific case of maximise).

Mind you, I wonder what the problem would be with having an empowered maximised fireball just do the straight 90 damage, now I think about it? It would be an 8th level spell, after all...

Nothings wrong with it IMO. I prefer additional metamagic feats to not work off the base spell anyways. Too many silly results(silly to me at least), such as an empowered/enlarged cone of cold 9th level spell, does x1.5 daamge out tot he old range and ordinary daamge beoynd that to its double rnage. A twinned/enlarged fireball has one fireball shoot out twice as far another fall short. You can come up with lots of other wierd results if you look, and can find some things you can't do which make you go well why not. About the only problem I could see are extended/persistent spells lasting 2 days or more. And well since I don't like persistent I know where I see the problem to be.

I understand that the SRD is the correct version.

You take the variable 1d4+1 or 1d8+lvl and roll it then roll again and /2.

THe reason was that if you take the first roll and just x1.5 you can get a really bad roll the first time and the idea of the feat was to give you better than average roll.

The lvl part IS added (at 1/2) each time you empower. That was clerified tho I cant give a link.

So Empowered Cure light wounds heals 1d8+lvl + ((1d8+lvl)/2)
THe same as "cures half again as many hit points"

Where does it say that in the SRD?

It says "half again as much damage as normal".

That's x1.5.

Given that the PHB explicitly says "Multiply what you roll", and the SRD doesn't say how to calculate "half again", there's no support anywhere for "roll more dice".

1d4*1.5, then add 1.

Empower only increases the variable numbers (dice rolled).

A double empowered buff would be (1d4*2) +1.

Empower increases the variable by 50%. So it would be d4 x 1.5 +1.

Actually, it would be (1d4+1)x1.5, or (1d4+1)x2 if it was twice-Empowered.
